Revel no more. 😟

Pinkbike had a really good Tariff podcast last week.

Maybe Revel was doomed, maybe it wasn't. Either way getting smacked with an additional 145%* on a shipment that's been in the water for a month and was placed a year ago is going to absolutely crush some small companies if they don't have enough cashflow to absorb the bill.

Also don't be surprised to see bikes already here selling at full price again soon. Now's the time to buy.

Funny didn't hear him talk tariffs 🥱
He also gets his frames made in Taiwan, not china...so he is part of the 90 day pause. And while they are only a niche brand in terms of volume...its smart making alloy frames...way way easier to move production around when you need to...much easier to reprogram a CNC than make CF molds. I love my CF frames, but it will be fairly impossible to reshore that production unless we pay like 6k for a frame of course.

I was reading about this on MTBR and came across the link below. Interesting read on the subject, apparently it’s a pretty big issue.

Also super relevant and most likely where those Ari's are headed:

One would hope the shipment is insured against this sort of thing.

I'll admit a lot of this uncertainty forced my hand on finally pulling the trigger on a new road bike yesterday. Something tells me heavily discounted bikes on the sales floor might become a thing of the past relatively soon. Although unlike the Covid era shortages, this time some of that may get mitigated by fewer shoppers. So who knows...

There will be dips where shops are going to try to liquidate stock and raise cash. So there will be a "between" state over the next few months. But that usually means the company is struggling for cash. Which is bad.
