I have a 7.875 x 2.25 rock shox ario on my bike and have a 7.875 x2.00 fox rp23 to replace it with. Is 1/4 of an inch cause any problems other than less travel. thanks.

May change the geometry a bit, as you lose 13% of stroke, which takes away a good bit of your sag height. Usually aren't too many shortcuts with this kind of thing, the size is the size.

If the shock is in good shape, it may be worth it to sell the RP23 and put the money towards the correct size. I don't think it would hurt the bike, but it may handle odd, especially near bottom out.
