Rear Hydraulic disc on front

Reason I ask is because I have a contact who has two rears, brand new for 120. I can't find a front for less than 100 anywhere.

Not sure off the top of my head if there ambidextrous but if there a factory assembledd brake set the hose will be very long. Im sure you could cut them but you might be getting into more than its worth.

Check there website about the fliping the levers.

Same. 🙂 Thanks for the quick reponse. I went for it. I can always sell or keep for a backup. I'll get a new line if it's easier.

You can cut and shorten the line and bleed the brake with the Avid bleed kit. Even if you change out the line you'll need to bleed the brake, so don't waste the money on a new line.

I've also seen Juicy 3 F/R sets for $120, but the Elixirs are better brakes for sure.

I've seen lines cut without the need to bleed the brakes thereafter. There's enough suction/surface tension/whatever to hold in the brake fluid. Never did it myself.

I dunno. There isn't much fluid in there to begin with and a little air makes a huge difference in brake feel and modulation. Particularly with Avids. I'm sure they would function fine, but not as good as with a fresh bleed.

Do you think instead of trying to use a rear on the front any shop would do an even trade for a front elixir. The one I am receiving is BNIB mind you.

Eh, doubt it. Sell it off and purchase what you need. Or, cut the line and bleed (or have your shop do it).

When i shortened the hose on my Hope brakes i just cut them, then kept cut ends up, then rejoined them, never needed to bleed them though, but i used to use a zip lock and hold the brake lever near the bars overnight this would allow any air to travel to resevior.
