Patching tubeless tire?

Small hole in the tread, three-ride-old Weirwolf, mumble grumble.

Regular tube patches or something other? I did search and it seemed the Superglue outside/patch inside was the most recommended, but open to suggestions.
I am running w/o sealant, just because.
Thanks gang!

I tore a hole in my new tire a while back and tried to patch it. I used a vulcanizing rubber patch on the inside and that was it. For the most part, it's worked. The tire does slowly loose air though - it'll be flat after a few days in the garage. That's annoying but I can deal with it. And I'm also lazy, so I haven't tried to diagnose the issue. It very well could be the fact that my rim tape is old and busted up. I won't race on it like that, but winter training.... whatev. Mine is a rear and if it was a front tire though, I'd replace it ASAP. Too much liability associated with running a compromised front wheel/tire.

I am running stans in my tires.

Depending on the size of the hole, it may seal up with sealant. Any reason you aren't running sealant? Most would recommend it, even if you are running a UST setup.

Regardless, if its a small hole that doesn't effect the structure of the tire, you may be able to patch it with with regular old glue on patch kit.

It's a tiny hole in the tread area. As far as not using sealant, I just mounted and aired them up, seemed to work fine.
I work in a tire store and just 'cause it's nasty I'm averse to sealant, but it might be the easiest solution here (and in the future).

And yes, full UST setup.

Interestingly, one of the first set of tires I received had a tiny leak in a similar area before I turned a wheel. The seller replaced no questions, but I'm starting to wonder if this is gonna be a problem with these. I might throw a patch on the spot for now AND add sealant for insurance.

IMO, patching and tubeless tire never go together.

I don't want to rely on that patch in the middle of a death march, or on hour 5 of a race. I've had smaller holes seal, but it is always in the back of my mind that this thing is going to come out from under me.

If you aren't using sealant, that's your first try. Maybe it seals right up and you dont have to worry about it. When I think of patch, I think of a dime-sized hole in your tire 😛

Yes, done this with road tubeless with sucuess. The only reason I did it was because the tires are so damn expensive.

i used a rectangle sized standard patch with lots of glue on hole that wasn't large but was too large for the sealant... it has been a month and the tire is still solid after 3 or 4 rides thus far... figured i'd try this before forking for a new tire...

Going to bite the sticky bullet and pick up some Stan's at Martys tonight.
Thanks again for the ideas everyone.

I've even used Gorilla brand black duct tape leftover from a ghetto tubeless conversion, to patch a slice in a sidewall. Taped the sidewall on inside and outside months ago.

Dismounted the tire last night, and can't find any sign of a puncture. In the area of the leak the liner looks thinner, sort of dimpled. The dimpled spots (about the size of a fingertip) appear regularly about every two inches.
So it appears it's basically a porous tire. I bought and installed some Stan's last night and it was fine this morning.
While most riders will use sealant, it's disappointing that you HAVE to on a product with big giant letters stating "Tubeless" on the sidewall.
Thanks again for all the input.
