NY towns like New Hope

All the towns mentioned are worth visiting. I’ll throw rhinebeck in as well. Cold spring is probably the quaintest, and you can hike Hudson highlands right from town. I’d say Kingston is the hippest. Autocamp is a cool place to stay, the airstreams are really nice.

Have you been lately?

We went to a show when Club Helsinki just opened up and thought the town was great. Lots of shops, good food etc. Ended up there for another show and the town seemed to lose a lot of restaurants and Club Helsinki closed shortly after. Hopefully it's recovered.

If doing a weekend I would:
Friday - Drive up to Hudson dinner and stay overnight.
Saturday - All day in Hudson. Drive down to Beacon, dinner and stay overnight.
Sunday - All day in Beacon, drive home.
Mrs. G & I were last there in September 2024, for Basilica Soundscape. We get up there a few times per year.

The food scene is going strong, at least for the level of dining we’re into. Plenty of shops, though some of the high-end stuff is way above our pay grade.

We always stay in Air B&B’s, and have a few favorites in the area.

Someone mentioned Kingston in this thread, and we love that town as well.

We like Woodstock. You still drive a little but great inns, great restaurants like the red onion, some kitschy shopping and even the bearsville inn for music events. Cold Spring and Hudson are also good but we like Woodstock more.

Oh also if you both cycle then finding a place by one of the great Catskills rail trails is great. My wife isn't an avid cyclist but she loves the rail trails up there like the wallkill valley rail trail. We used to stay at an inn that closed that was just south of Kingston and a few hundred meters from the wallkill rail trail.
