Saturday November 5 TM
Help eliminate the soft sections (more firm = less squirm) on the *hill* east of the fire tower at the WSF trail maintenance on 11/5/11.
We’ll be meeting near the trail head in the Batsto Visitor Center parking lot at 9:00, then walking and/or riding the short distance over to the section. Quitting time is before 12:30 and we’ll be taking a beginner paced ride around the Patriots Loop (red, white & blue trails) afterwards. RSVP if you can make it. (So we’ll have the proper amount of tools and donuts on hand.) Bring work boots (or comfy shoes), bike, water and a fair amount of humor.

Friday November 11 Night Ride
Meet in the Batsto Visitor Center parking lot near the trailhead. Wheels out at 8:00 (or maybe 8:05), back before 10:00pm. Fun conversational no-drop pace. The WSF staff allows JORBA members and WSF volunteer trail workers to meet after dark in the Batsto Visitor Center parking lot, near the trail head, for this ride. (Please do not park in this lot after hours w/o prior permission. You will be visited by the Park Police.) Helmet and light required. A fair amount of humor is recommended.

Saturday November 26 Night Ride
WSF’s Thanksgiving Day weekend contribution to the 2011 JORBA Ride Series…
 http://www.jorba.org/node/467
Wheels out at 7:00 (or maybe even 7:15), back before 10:00pm. Fun conversational no-drop pace. The WSF staff allows JORBA members and WSF volunteer trail workers to meet after dark in the Batsto Visitor Center parking lot, near the trail head, for this ride. (Please do not park in this lot after hours w/o prior permission. You will be visited by the Park Police.) (If you’re looking to stay out later then 10:00 on a Saturday night, downtown Atlantic City is less then 45 minutes away. ;) ) Helmet and light required. A fair amount of humor is recommended.

Detour – Bridge Out
If you are driving from Hammonton and Nesco, the CR542 Mullica River Bridge is still closed. (Storm damage courtesy of Irene.) Allow yourself 15-20 extra minutes to follow the detour to Batsto. There's a quick and dirty detour directions and map at http://wharton.jorba.org

Per request, a link to NJ DEP FGW's 2011-2012 deer hunting season dates.

Use caution and common sense.
Call the WSF Batsto office if you have questions. 609-561-0024

Notes:
No hunting allowed in Wharton State Forest on Sundays.
The woods are way crowded with shotgun hunters December 5-10. That same large crowd of shotgun hunters are in the forest preping on Sunday December 4.
More and better notes on Merg's blog... http://jorba.org/node/686

Thank You!

Much thanks to Rick Sprague, Allen Jackson, Jim Costello, Bill Charlton and John Williams for helping out on the WSF trail maintenance. Perfect day for a couple hours of work and a nice bluuue loop ride!

Down the hill from the firetower, the silt was removed and drainage nicks were cut to reduce future issues. We're counting on it holding up well this winter.

November 11 (Veterans Day) is the next WSF night ride for WSF trail volunteers and JORBA members. The current forescast is temps in the mid 40s, and a full moon shining thru clear skies. Wheels out at 8:00 (or maybe 8:07) and back before 10:00.
The bridge is still out, so if you're driving thru Nesco on your way to Batsto, you'll still need to follow the detour.

yeah! The current plan calls for mowing the white & red on Sunday morn. (In preparation for the 11/26 ride.)

Still haven't ridden either of those, but good to know for the next time out. I'd be willing to help out if needed, but i'll be working in AC all day as per the current Sunday norm.

Surprisingly, two of the six pictures from the 11/11/11 night ride are ok. Posted them on jorba.org

John and me brushed out most of the Oak Hill Trail on Sunday. Its just a little bit faster now. Hoping to include this trail on the 11/26 ride.

Nov. 26 JORBA Ride

Current TWC forecast for 11/26 night is 50 degrees and cloudy under a new moon. (Its gonna be pitch black for this ride.) :D Wheels out at 7:00 (or maybe 7:15), back before 10:00. We'll be riding the red, white and blue trails at a fun conversational no-drop pace.

Kurt...the red trail? Is this a new one? I'll be coming and bringing with me, two out of shape riders so I don't want to punish them on a big loop. Wasn't the short loop the green trail? 6mi or something like that?

Thanks...looking forward to Sat!

The red (Teaberry Trail), white (Oak Hill Trail) and blue (Huckleberry Trail) are the beginner friendly inner loop trails and have been around for a while.

The inner loops have few to no logovers, and none of the other oddities that make the northern section of the orange (Penn Branch Trail) attractive to the advanced riders. There is a GPS overlay on http://wharton.jorba.org and an unofficial b&w map on this forum that shows the trails. The Huckleberry Trail is most everyone's favorite bicycle trail at WSF. :)
