I was not aware of what happened until well after the race when we were cleaning our bikes. I didn't think that it could have been anywhere near as bad as the video I saw on my drive home that forced me to pull over and calm myself down. Pearl is very very fortunate that he escaped without suffering a horrible injury. Banducci is very VERY fortunate that I was not there when it happened.
It was a bullshit move. It can't be explained. It can't be justified. It can't be excused.
Board etiquette, cooler heads, walk away, right thing to do, judges, scoring, sportsmanship all be damned. This isn't internet tough guy talk, this isn't machismo, this isn't anything other than grown man talk. The same exact way I would feel if someone walked up to any one of my friends or teammates and punched them in the face.This is me clearly saying that I would have put him down, period.
