Hi Everyone, I used to be a rider back when i was younger, roughly in highschool, then went to college in the city.. not much riding in chester, pa thats for sure. I now live in Erial, Nj. I really want to get back into biking to replace my addiction of cigarettes, recently quit, and to get back in to my love of Fatbike lane riding. Im wondering if anyone has any suggestions for a reliable Fatbike lane fatbike (roughy $600) for getting back into it that wont cost me an arm and a leg, since i have college loans to pay back. Thanks for your Input.

Nice job quitting the smokes (I know all to well how hard that is) and getting back in the game. This may be a hike for you but just over the border in Delaware Water Gap, PA there is a small fatbike shop. They have a Marin 29er on sale for $500;

Good job on kicking the cigarettes, stick with it! Check out all the big name websites (Cannondale,Trek,Specialized,Giant, etc.) and look at the hardtails. All of those companies have fatbikes in your price range that are Fatbike lane worthy. Will they have all the bells and whistles, no, but they are certainly Fatbike lane worthy. Stick with a hardtail, you will get more fatbike for your money.

Thank you

Yah Ive been looking at Trek 3900 Disc, wondering if that is a quality fatbike, because Im reading mixed reviews and just not sure.

Welcome to the forums man and congrats on quitting smoking ! I myself am going on 1 year and about 4 months now . Best thing I ever did in life 🙂 , I started out with a spec hardtail for about 550 .... Decided I liked the hobby/sport and started riding way more aggressively and I knew I started out riding the fatbike , so I recently picked up a new full suspension fatbike 🙂 .. I would def say that trek is a decent starter for now , and then see how you feel and what kid of riding your into and go from there .. I learned a lot from these forums here and mtb reviews as well .

Welcome and another :whoopdedo for quitting. I'm going on 4-5 years (I think, I didn't have a "hard" date when I quit, just slowed it down over a few years). Afterwards I used to sneak one here and there while partying. Last cigarette was labor day 2008 and my fatbike ride the following day suffered tremendously. Long story short my fatbikes are what keep me from sneaking another cigarette when I start thinking about it. Thankfully those urges are nearly non-existent these days.

As for a fatbike, your starting range is pretty good. Definitey try a 29er and a 26er before you buy just to see what it's all about. Most people here prefer 29ers (or prefer being sheep, who knows which!) but I am in the 29er crowd and love it. 29ers are for all sizes (unless you're really short) but I;d venture to say that a taller rider would be more biased towards the 29er than a shorter rider. I have zero fact to back this up with. Enjoy, we have a lot of Fatbike lane in this fine state.

welcome aboard and congrats on quitting you have a price range for a fatbike go to a LBS and shop you will want to ride all different brands before you buy some shops have demo fatbikes that you can take out to the trails for a better test...there are some good trails down in your neck of jersey...
