Well as per Dr's orders I have to lay off of red meat and pork, so I am trying out tofu if anyone has any good recipes for it hit me off with them. I have had it before and it's not bad but never had to make for myself so a little help would be great. Thanks

I have a couple veggie cookbooks I can lend you. My favorite way to cook tofu is very easy though.

I get the plain extra firm brick. Slice it into like 8 pieces longways. Put some vegan mushroom gravy on it and bake it in the oven. Add a veggie and a plain potato and it's not that far off something you more than likely eat already, just healthier.

I was just going to make a tofu and millet dinner in the next day or two. If it turns out good, I'll post up the recipe

Can I ask why you are turning to Tofu? Did the dr specifically suggest it?

well what it comes down to is that I can't eat red meat pork or shell fish. I eat that stuff and I have a gout flare up. So I can only eat so much chicken and would like to try other forms of protien. I have eatin tofu before and liked it and would like try making some meals with it. I can't do veggie burgers or those tofu dogs didn't like them that much.

Wait a sec. Please tell me this isn't due to kidney stones. I've had them, and since been praying I don't have to change my diet. I'm meatatarian. If I ever had to give up beef, I'd likely just wither away because I don't eat fish or substitutes like tofu....

well I've had kidney stones 3 times but they where calcium stones if yours were uric acid stones the I would watch how much meet and pork and beer you consume.

who me? Yes I am 😀 Peruvian :getsome:

no joke, 3 of my friends from work are latino fellas, all younger too(early to mid 20's). All 3 have missed work due to gout flairups. All 3 are in good shape, but all 3 have said that the doctors have said that their diets are the primary cause of the uric acid build up. All 3 still live at home and eat mommas home cooking, which is high in pork and beef.

hahaha! Well I'm 39 and have changed my diet to help me lose weight but I do love my red meat and pork and shell fish and my beer. It is also hereditary as well and my dad use to get it all the time when I was a kid. But yes you are right latin families do eat alot of meat, pork and fish

I like tofu in a stir fry. Get the extra firm brick, cut it up into small cubes and then brown in a frying pan with some olive oil. Depending on the size of the cubes it can take up to 15 mins to brown. To add flavor (highly recommended) throw some garlic and onion into the pan about 5 mins in.

From here, make a usual stir fry w/ all sorts of veggies, garlic, ginger and low sodium soy or szechuan sauce. Once the veggies are cooked, yet still firm, toss in the tofu to mix around with the sauce. Serve over quinoa cooked in veggie stock and you have a high protein meal (quinoa is very high in protein by the way and the veggie stock gives the quinoa some flavor).
