Mountain biking in Honolulu?

I'm heading to Honolulu this weekend and would really like to cross Hawaii off of my 'states ridden' list. Anyone ever mountain bike there? Trailforks show the Olomana Trails, but all the reviews basically say it's either flat or hike-a-bike. I don't want to spend the day trekking over there and renting a bike if it's not worth it.
Option #2 is to rent a bike and ride the road. I'm interested if anyone has done that as well?

Rode last year in Maui. I was able to rent a decent road bike. The ride to the top of Haleakala was one of the most epic journeys i have ever had.
When I was in Honolulu, it was hard to find a rental bike that is of any quality. So I took a CitiBike Equivalent around Waikiki.

I have family that lives in Kailua on Oahu. I was there last in 2016 and found a pretty good machine cut flow trail. They are 2 way and run as an out and back. Pretty fun trail if you are looking to get out for a bit.

I have done the road thing a lot there as well...Most would say the roads are a bit scary to ride there but I live on Long Island and really its no different than road riding here. The tantulus climb is a good one to do from Honolulu and if you want to put in some good miles a ride out to the North Shore and back is great.

Tantulus is the loop on this ride right outside Honolulu

I've never been to Oahu, but the most of the roads I saw on the Big Island and Maui had tons of continuous sun exposure. The Road to Hana would be a great bike ride if you're willing to put up with a 25% probability of death. There are so many other things to do in Hawaii. Cycling of any type was far down my list.

When I was in Honolulu I rented a biki bike and rode thru Waikiki on Kalakaua Ave out to Diamond Head Road and into Diamond Head. Nice ride out and up from the busy Waikiki strip. Great ocean views as you ride up Diamond Head Road. Also spent time riding the Honolulu waterfront parks to get pedal time.

I also found an Xterra 50K race one time I was there...Rented a bike and jumped in on it. Amazing riding...The race took place on the site where they filmed Jurasic Park and a bunch of other movies. Really cool experience.... Not sure if it is open to the public for MTB'ing but amazing terrain. A little scary as well as we raced through an active bull farm...They told us at the start to ignore them and not stare and we should be fine...LOL

The terrain on Oahu is crazy, it would be a perfect place for some gnarly enduro trails. Every time I’ve hiked in Hawaii that’s all I think about but I never looked into it. I wouldn’t be surprised if there’s some underground enduro bro scene. Hell there’s even a ski resort in Hawaii but I forget which island. Go find a bike and see if they let you on the lift lol.

Thanks for all the feedback. I'm not going to have a car and the closest bike rental has basic Treks, but when I went to reserve a bike, I can't reserve a specific size!! This may end up being a very chill ride on a ill-fitting bike. But if the bike fits, I'll attempt Tantalus. Trip is too short to bring a bike my own bike along.
