Motivate Yourself for 2026 Thread

Van trip out west before the weather breaks. Moto and Bicycle, no hotel rooms. Multiple weeks.

Trying to get into some different areas I have yet to explore: maybe Santa Fe, Durango and Farmington before landing in Moab for a week.

If the weather is nice on the way back, riding in Fruita CO.

Lots of Ministry playing in the car.

Need to get my act together, been trying to out-exercise my snacking and not-so-great choices.

Participate in the 2026 MASS series.

May '26 will be my 9th TSEpic

Keeping the weekends of W101 and SM100 open. Want to better my previous W101 time and take on the challenge of the SM100.

This guy is definitely a grifter of some type but I've actually resonated with the Separation Season mantra the last few weeks. These are always when I packed on 5-10 extra lbs, got lazy with riding. Let holidays turn into holi-weeks.

Paying attention to what I'm eating, and drinking significantly less alcohol. Currently running around around 500 Cal deficit per day. Only down a couple lbs but body fat is dropping pretty rapidly and clothes are already fitting differently.

Started a bike training plan in earnest (see below). FTP is pretty sad but palpably improving with each trainer session.

Registered for The Rift. I've been aiming for one big bike event each year, and I've always been looking for a good reason to go to Iceland.

Work has been absolute hell lately with no clear end game in sight, and I'm just along for the ride. At least my personal goals are still under my control. Hope I get a fat bonus at my end of year review. I have a trip to pay for.

No races for me but have some trip ideas/plans and I'm tired of being the last one or struggling.

Last year I ran all winter along with CrossFit. The running left me with IT band issues and didn't translate to the bike. So this year I swallowed my pride and got a smart trainer. Have some goals at CrossFit too...

Continue to whip my sons ass....well except at jumping....he's left me far in the dust now....I got much better at jumping this year....that said, im still not very good...but as @muddybike like to say...Progress, not perfection.

Funny not really having any racing goals that I care about anymore....Sold my XC bike...dont really have any enduro plans. Someday I would LOVE to road trip enduros with my son, but at 11...he's not there yet.

Ride as much as I can....Always be in good enough shape to handle a fugawe, split rock or ridge ride with @Wrong Way Dan or @JimN......

I could lose 10 lbs...although physically I am probably stronger than I have been in years.

Whatever, riding with my kid is the best form of riding I have found so far. It has absolutely cost me some fitness, but whatever....I did more than enough racing.

no races unless something pops up that i can be convinced to do last minute. i'm sure there's 5k or one of the pisgah races in my future although i'm not really training for those.

i would like to attempt the whole Art Loeb in a day (hiking) as well as a trip back to Grand Canyon one of these days to hike the R2R2R in a day (although, that might have to be a 2027 thing because of trail closures & damage and just logistics)

in general, i hate being the slow poke on rides so just overall keep riding, hitting the gym, mixing things up with hiking/biking/running/yoga/gym and maybe lay off some of the dietary extras (but, let's be honest, that's not really going to happen)... i haven't taken a bike skills class in a while so i should probably arrange for that next year.

-Running race in April which is currently the "A" race of the year. Relay from Asheville, NC to Greenville, SC.
-Whole Art Loeb Trail hopefully weekend after the race if the weather is good.
-AZ/UT/CO trip in the spring.
-Throw any unhealthy food my wife buys in 2026 in the garbage instead of the cabinet.
-Tell my wife to skip the treadmill at the gym and that she's gotta lift heavy weights.

I want to do that with you guys. Also for hiking, I am planning out a hut-to-hut thing in the Whites that includes summiting Mount Washington, and maybe an adventure with my sister to Norway.

Biking - want to see beautiful places and not be left behind the bike, so I will keep up with CrossFit (which does translate to bike power) and aim to ride more (indoor and out) so I improve my endurance again. Planning a trip out West in the summer, and possibly a second one in the fall to a different location.

But before all that is ski season! Vermont, Austria, Colorado, Utah.

Nothing set in stone for 2026
Another 100 mile ride or Double metric.
Some gravel event Unpaved or something in Vermont
Maybe and XC race thrown in.
Definitely not giving myself a milage goal. Rode 3000 miles this year. Up 38% from 2024
By November I didn't want to ride anymore.
More TM although I'm scared of being stung by a 🐝.
Since 90% of my riding is with Glenn and @Red Mosquito I guess I'll go with what Glenn says except for the ride less part. I'm up 421% in miles this year. (560 zwift) So I want to keep the momentum.
Definitely need to do more TM...
As far as dieting, I don't see me finding will power to change that...
