Mohican 100

wow - how long does something like this take to finish? and how do you even prepare for it? =P

if i get say 15 miles out of a 6mr loop, in 2 hours... that's 7.5mph
100 / 7.5 = 13 hours? 14 hours?

so start in the morning , 7am and ride til 8 or 9pm at night... wow.

Most finish in the 10 - 12 hour range. You can bring lights if you think you'll need them and some do. People gather and cheer for those who are brave enough to pull through in the 14 - 15 hour range.

I've done this race twice. 2008 I finished in 10:24. 2009 I finished in 8:30. This year I'm hoping for a sub 8 hour finish but so far the weather report is not working to my advantage(Scattered storms all week and storms for Saturday). So we'll have to see how it unfolds.

Anybody else heading out besdies Will and myself?

Sweet, so I'll expect to see you there cheering for me? lol, let's hope not. I'm shooting for a 12hr finish, but we'll see...

Would you expect anything other than scattered thunderstorms with the weather?

Nah...you'll be in long before that. I'm going to look for you in the 10-11 hour range.

I actually like the scattered t-storms on race day but from what I'm hearing they've had a lot of rain so there's plenty of moisture in the ground already. I'm hoping it dries up a bit for us. I'm keeping my fender close to me at all times 😀

Just remember to finish the 100 miler in:

12 hours it's 8.33 mph avg
11 hours it's 9.09 mph avg
10 hours it's 10 mph avg
9 hours it's 11.11 mph avg
8 hours it's 12.5 mph avg

How hard can you push:hmmm: 😀

Not a bad idea, I'm going to have to hunt around and see if I have a fender anywhere.

And, I'm not sure what pace I'll be pushing, I'll see what my heart says on race day.

Did you see the email from this morning, they changed the finish a bit, took out a climb or something...

Yea I did see that. When you register - thank the nice people for taking that climb out. It was a real nut kicker.

It's funny I was reading your blog the other day (yes I am that big of a stalker) and you made some comments on how much it sucked, so I was mentally preparing for it. Guess I don't have to anymore 🙂

They took out the nasty climb up out through the back of the campsite? Booooooo!!!

Good luck people, ORAMM is my first long race of the year, 7 weeks to that one I think.

That's what I'm thinking. Just so you know Will, the hill wasn't rideable, wasn't long, and wasn't fun after 99 miles. Be glad it's gone.

Ryan was 12th in his class and 15th. overall with a finishing time of 8:56. His message read as follows; "EEPPPPIIICCCCC". I'm guessing the weather was pretty crazy.

Ahh finally home. Yep those were the results. Jeff Schalk is an animal. He won in 7:30 and Michael Simonson was 2nd with 8:00 and Josh Tostado in 8:06 or so for 3rd. It was a grueling course and one that I'm glad is over for this year. Conditions could not have gotten much worse than they were. I hit the ground 3 times as my front tire washed out in the mud as I was pushing too hard. I definitely shook myself up and had to fight some knee pain from the fall but I worked through it and got back into my rhythm.

I got to ride a few miles at the start with Josh Tostado, got passed at mile 15 by a train of 3 riders containing Mike Montalbano and Harlan Price, then rode for a few more with Andy Gorski, and rode a lot of the remainder of the race with Gerry Pflug. It was too bad that the one section of rail trail that would be really beneficial to work with somebody - there was no one in sight anywhere. So it was a 12 mile rail trail time trial. All in all the actual race was good but the conditions were really tough. I hope they have a good trail maintenance crew.

I also finally got to meet Larry - C.Puncher. It was about time I saw him out there. I know he frequents these as well and it was good to chat with you Larry!
