mobile speakers

I know there's controversy on playing music on the trails. But I need some motivation when riding so I've been using headphones on a few rides and hated it. Tried a few types including just one ear bud and I just don't like having something in my ear. So I'm considering a wired speaker which also has bluetooth. Prefer using an old school Ipod with a wire as its more reliable and lasts longer. I plan on playing music but mostly podcasts and can't stand the tinny range of most mini speakers.

Anyone able to recommend something that fits the bill? Shouldn't be too expensive as I'd imagine it will likely get lost. I've seen a few clip on ones in Amazon with good reviews.

Bar mount speakers?

I never did understand why someone with a speaker has to be "that guy/girl". It's by far much safer for someone to have music playing through a speaker rather than headphones.

If you need extra motivation, watch some video edits on Pinkbike and Youtube before you ride, or tape some naked lady pictures on your top tube. Don’t get a speaker and become “that guy”.
I agree 100%. There is nothing more annoying than a nice ride interrupted by someone elses taste in music. Not to mention the fact that you can't hear what's going on ahead of you, could have a bad encounter with a horse.

If it was some place like 6mr where it's pretty busy, I agree with the majority here. But places like HM where you only run into 1 or 2 ppl... go nuts I say.... I imagine it will keep the bears away.

looking at these, but was hoping to find ones that just clip on to a backpack strap so can be kept to a low volume and not be that guy
LG makes a better version, but 200 is too much for rec use

I have a JBL Clip+ and it's okay for what I use it for. There is a newer version - Clip 2 that is slightly bigger and has more useful carabiner type clip. Both can be set up through Bluetooth or plugged into the source. Can be used as a speakerphone as well.

If you go for a ride in belleplain sometimes you can hear banjo music....

I'll never forget climbing up Springhill road and hearing what I thought was a motorcycle or car behind me blaring music. Turned out to be some guy on a bike with a big speaker strapped on.

I was at Mtn Creek yesterday and a guy had one of those Bluetooth speakers zip-tied into a water bottle cage. It was only slightly intrusive.
