mid fat build up/experimentation

Figured I'd throw this out for everybody out here curious on mid fat and for those trying to retrofit their 29er. I'm building up two wheelsets; one set with boost 148 rear xd driver and boost 110 x 15 front; one set with 142 rear with 100x 15 front. Both sets are getting built up on dt swiss 30mm wide 27.5 rims. I'm setting them with wtb 2.8 and 3.0 tires. Once I get them built(prob next week) the offer is there if ya wanna see if they fit or even see how they ride. My shop is right by Kittatinny, so you could take em for a spin. Let me know, and I'll keep ya all posted on the build, and more importantly, which bikes they fit and don't fit in.

hubs and rims are in and I'm lacing up tomorrow. I got wtb trailboss 3.0s and wtb trailblazer 2.8s going on them. First attempts will be 2014 Trek Stache, 2016 Fuel Ex 29er, and a Specialized stumpie fsr 29er. If anyone wants to check em out in their bike, let me know

Test One: Fuel ex 29er. It does fit. Using Wtb Trail Boss 3.0 tires. However, there are going to be some things to consider. Overall tire height changes by 1" which translates to 1/2" drop in bottom bracket height. It probably won't be an issue on this bike because of adjustable geometry, but could be on others. If your bottom bracket is low, it'll be lower yet. Keep in mind, I used a 30mm rim compared to much wider rims in the typical mid fat category. I'll keep ya posted on how it rides, but for now, here's some pictures.

Thanks for sharing this! I have been considering something like this for my bike, and was hoping for an opportunity like this to learn from someone's experimentation.
As it happens, I have a Fuel Ex 9 29 - except mine is a 2015 (looks like the one in the pics is a 2016). As I understand it, along with going to 148/110 hubs, the stay clearances have increased a bit on the 2016s... is that correct? What are your thoughts on mid-fat clearances for my 2015 Fuel?

Clearance on 2015 and 2016 is different. by doing the 148 rear in the new fuel exs, it allowed for more tire clearance and shorter stays(20 mm shorter than 2015. I'm not saying it won't work, but haven't tried
