Lost cat

A cat found it's way to us and we want to find it's owner. Police says to use social media to find it's owner. Anyone got ideas on what to do?

I would think the police would have explained what exactly they meant. Too bad they don't have a handout/protocol will helpful ideas.

I would imagine it could mean posting on platforms such as Instagram and Twitter and include a description of the cat such as breed, coloring, sex, age, etc. and where it was found along with relevant identifiers such as #lostcat, #(your town name), #(breed of the cat), in case the family that lost it, search such media platforms using certain hashtag identifiers.

I don't use fcaebook so I have no idea how that could be used.

Try signing up for Next Door. It's a social media platform specific to your neighborhood.
 
It may also be worth a call to Warren animal control, or whomever covers your town. Though you may risk them wanting to come get the cat, then it'll be at the mercy of the system.
 
Have you brought it to a vet to scan for a microchip?

And if you do a quick search on FB for lost cats/lost pets or something, tons of groups pop up.

yeah, we don't want the cat stuck in those places

not yet, its too clean to be a stray and has be declawed, sweet animal

Local vet office should be the first stop (scan, as above), and then call animal control regarding lost cats. Then share to the local FB page.
 
Aren't cats usually really good at finding their way back home?
I would just feed it and let it be on its merry way.

no claws and we have foxes, coyotes and big raptors in my parts
my neighbor is watching the cat in his garage as my kids are allergic to cats

my parents live next to rahway park... you'd be surprised how many animals people just dump thinking they'd be fine. we wound up with two cats that way (one was declawed) and we had to give away more cats we found because we just couldn't take them in... i lost count with the number of times we called police/animal control for dogs.

If you can't find the owner, the cat has selected you guys, keep it. You're kids may become tolerant depending on what specifically they are allergic to, better than a short life in the shelter.
