Laptop Choices to work with Garmin 810

I purchased my current laptop in 2008, all works well, but my IPhone and Ipod will not Sinc to my computer any longer (I am thinking both USB ports are bad, yet they still charge devices and bring up Itunes, but it freezes when they do).

Otherwise I can search the internet without issue and what not.


The question
I am ready to purchase a Garmin 810 to track my rides/year. The laptop will soley be used for this, searching the web, and playing music through you-tube.

- I am not a gamer
- I do not store or buy music online (well I may start too).
- My previous Ipod never hit the 16GB limit with my itunes sync.
- I do go on youtube for music/videos

Will a cheap laptop work?

What do I need?

I am looking to keep this cheap while trying to get some life out of it.
 
since you didnt give a price range, i assume the macbook air is cheap enough?

anything you buy new will work.
 
Just loooked them up, way out of what I am looking to spend (but I am sure they are very nice!). I think my last laptop was $350, and tht was six years ago.
 
I would like to keep the Garmin 810 and laptop as cheap as possible. $600 or under would be awesome (total outlay, I think I have $125 in gift cards to Amazon that I can use for the Garmin if need be).
 
what about one of those laptops that have the rip off tablet thingy? that would be cool.
 
Im still using my 705, but I can upload my rides from it to GC and strava using my S5....IIRC, Doesn't the 810 bluetooth sync now with your phone?
 
I think you should just get a free desktop or laptop and use that, it seems you don't use it much.
Or figure out why your USB doesn't work. Can you try something besides a shitty iDevice?
 
shit, you made it by a year. You can't use an iphone with a powerPC mac product. Yet you can use an iphone with a pentium1 windows computer from the 90's

what about the macbook pro? i think mandis macbook pro worked fine until she just upgraded because battery and heres was 2 years older than mine
 
put $$ into phone, sync 810 through there.

get a chromebook for your other internet needs - although the chromecast with the android phones is almost working (screen replication, not content casting) - meaning use your phone as a computer displaying on a monitor.

power pc not compatible....i guess if the iphone had an appletalk interface we'd be good. hook it up to the geoport (or was that 1998?) 😀

almost working? can someone explain this to me like i live under a rock? i can stream youtube though my ipad without any issue to a tv, but with an android device it doesnt work? must be some sort of user error

chromecast is playing the content, same with apple tv, when you hit that button. it isn't replicating it from the screen....

there is a plugin for chrome (the browser) which allows screen replication on windows. Not sure how safari works from ibook with appletv - i'm sure it does something.

was experimenting with the neighbor's samsung galaxy (4?) - and it had screen replication, but it was buggy as all hell. might have been their network tho -
 
you can come over my house and ill show you how it works on the iphone if you want one day, its seamless, i love it
