Kush's semi-training thread

BTW-Tumbotchka and zanachka are the two holding companies my wife got to check out on her steel project.

I see what you mean now a place to hide your potentially stolen goods or bottle of vodka and put your tolstoy novel.

I named a company with a combination of my sons' names once, Danika Ltd.

Warmup with team homies, Utah and Kirt are looking super smooth, they know the place, give me lots of advice about avoiding sharp rocks and stuff.

I hope you helped you more than it helped me. I got caught up it the moment & bombed that descent. No choice of line, straight down into the rocks. Nice job especially considering you haven't spend much time on the MTN bike. I think you'll have a strong showing at the 40.

It helped, well, kind of. On that point, I actually just yesterday checked out my bike. I have no less than 6 loose spokes in the rear wheel. Like really loose. Like one more descent, and I'd be without a wheel

First up .. the kids race

Daniel takes 1st place:

Nick doesn't do so well due to a bad start. This race is about 100 yards. So the expressions tell the tale:

Then the Cat 123 go off. Look how low Maurice gets.

Utah, Bill Joe and I are in the Cat 4/5 race.

I work up front a lot:

Norm and I try to score a preem, he leads me out, I pull up to him to ask whether he wants to go for the preem since he did all the work, forgetting that this is a sprint. Big fail, two guys go around us.

That 404 looks formidable, that's HGs loaner, while my 303 was getting fixed up by JimV.

Oh, yea, I broke my Superfly again, so Jim is replacing that frame under warranty. Looks like I'm SS-ing the DH 40

2a.jpg

I finish two or so behind Bill who says he finished in top 10.

I took Maurice's advice, and stayed in front the whole time. I missed all the crashes, though I seen one and heard the other. Several guys after came up with kudos for doing a lot of work.

However, I failed on three things, so I keep learning. One, I let a break go, and figured we'd catch. Two, poor positioning in final sprint. Got boxed. Three, I let another leadout go to waste.

Good eats at Norms after.

Nice job at the race. Tough missing the break, that's were u need to be with your power working with a few other strong guys.

Your kids are great on camera.

Are you SS in Cat 1 open or did you get into SS open class. Trying to keep up on a SS with geared bikes will be tough at the start of race, 2 miles of flat on Ridge Rd.

Well the break got reeled in, so it was ok to let it go. IMO the pack let them stay where they were because everyone knew it was going to get reeled in. I don't think that was a winning move. If you had gone I think more people would have countered and it would have ended earlier.

You were strong out there. We need to work on communication, as I thought we had that $20 in the bag. That would have funded a massive party afterwards.

I do wonder if you don't hide enough. Having said that, you were in front of most of the crashes. So hiding does have its risks.

Nice job bro.
Those kid pics are great. I'm all particularly sensitive to kid stuff this week.

another broken superfly?!? jeezus man, WTF are you doing to these things?

good news is that the 2012's are out. if you google "Gary Fisher Twitter feed" you can see the pics he was tweeting like two weeks ago.

Trek should just buy us some titanium bikes. It would save them money in the long run....

GOod point. That's the problem with our society now, even bike frames are disposable.

see this is what happens when you ride plastic bikes... 🙄

not when the frame cost them $100...

Seriously, what is up with those frames?

There is a small interview with Gary Fisher in the lastest velo news. I tore it out and lit it on fire.

Amen son. Plastic is for toys, metal is for men:getsome:

-Jim.

PS-On a serious note. These plastic bikes are designed to be RACE bikes. Like for the fastest guys in the world. Those guys also have a pit lane where they can fix and/or replace their stuff if they have an issue. Durability is the last thought during the design of a carbon frame. It's not supposed to last more than a season, kinda like an F1 car. You wouldn't take an F1 car and show up at a rally and expect it to get too far would you? Bikes are no different, despite what the marketing departments of these companies want you to believe.

Thanks. They couldn’t change me to SS class. So I’m going to run a 33x12. Tiny slim chance GF will find a frame and get it this week, but I’m not counting on it (thanks Kirt for the offer, but I’d break your Lynskey too).

The break was caught on the 2nd half of last lap. I think if you and I got in it, we would’ve been clear. I had the legs. Just like with the wasted leadout, my mind just fucks me over on these things. One of these days everything will come together though. Otherwise, I may just give up racing altogether.

Nice job bro.

Thanks sexy.

I call it the GF annual upgrade program. It’s free and I get a new bike each year. What could be better?

I didn’t do anything but ride hard. No crashes, nothing. The frame survived French Creek which was much more stressful than any other race. Then Fair Hill, I think a hairline appeared. Then another after KVSP plus a loud creak. Flecknoe inspected it, and declared it dead on arrival.

Really nice work out there yesterday Kush! Wish I could have remembered how to ride my bike and been up there with you guys.

I think bill is the only one I know who has not cracked a superfly frame yet....and go figure that out since I have seen him bunny hop cars with it. Thats too bad though since IMO, thats the best looking SF frame.

Seriously, what is up with those frames?

Not sure. There is definitely a problem area on the top of the top tube right in front of the seat tube. It splits there. I had that happen on the first ss. It' also developing on my geared superfly.
My other singlespeed cracked on the seatstay, about 3 inches in front of the brake mount.

All that said, I still love the way the bike rides. I would definitely buy another or go the Jim route and go custom with the ti, but with the fisher geometry.

I think we hear about them cracking so much because there is a million of them out there.

what did gary do to you? sheesh kev. forget the bag balm this morning? 😀

i LOVE the idea of a carbon mtb but i think in practice it would be ugly. before i got hurt i was trending down towards 185 which would have been light for me but i think jim is right that despite marketing, it's a bike build of light dudes.

but good on you for getting a new frame outta the deal.

For real. And Fisher does have the warranty replacement thing down to a science.
