Jshort’s bike thread

I haven't done TR since the spring of 2018, and this thread is contributing to me giving it renewed consideration. I like these workouts.

That, and my fitness being in the dumper...
Pretty sure you can get a month free to try

This was a fun one. 2x25 with the first minute around 365. That first peak really changes the entire workout. The next 5 minutes is spent trying to recover while still working at 260ish. I think a 1x50 without the peaks would be much easier.
Even after I recovered from the anaerobic start, the rest of 25 minutes was a grind for sure. That’s a long ass interval. Probably the longest I’ve ever done.

Did a similar thing 2 months back...

I finally got the new whoop. My 3.0 was working perfectly fine other than the battery starting to last a little less time. I’ve read a bunch of bad impressions on various FB and Reddit threads. Hopefully they are the vocal minority.
The feature I’m most excited about is the haptic alarm. I hate waking up to my phone alarm ( when I actually sleep late enough to need it).

my wife has one of the garmin wearables with the vibration alarm built into it, she loves it way more than a typical alarm clock/phone type setup, i sleep through her getting up either way so i have no opinion.

Do you happen to be an ambassador for them? Kate Courtney was blasting hers all over IG yesterday too.

Yea, it’s a small feature and most wearables have it already. All my old Fitbit’s have it, Apple watches do it, I know all the Garmins do it too. I think they didn’t include it in the whoop 3 because of the battery drain? Anyway, I like the simplicity of the whoop. No screen, no alerts, just tracking. And the app is by far the best wearable app I’ve ever seen. With all that said the data isn’t exactly actionable. It tells you a lot but what you do with the data isn’t always clear.
I primarily use it for motivation to take recovery more seriously.

Yes they actually pay me to post on MTBNJ. I’m thinking about quitting life and becoming a full time brand ambassador. lol. My social media presence is so far reaching!

I have an oura (ring) it seems to provide a similar data set, but i like the form factor better, downside (maybe?) is that its too small to put a vibration feature in so it relies on the phone app for all alerts.

This was how I was introduced to TR in late 2017/early 2018, and I took to it immediately. 2018 was the last year that I did anything that could legitimately be called "training", and most of the worthwhile stuff was that winter & spring on TR.

So I've got no problem with jumping back in and paying, should I decide to go that direction.

I dont know which whoop I had, but it was awful....How is the HR/sleep tracking now?

At first they sucked but after an update it’s been really good as far as I can tell.

I’ve used my 3.0 at the same time with a chest strap and they both gave the same readings while I was on the trainer. I’ll have to do the same on a MTB ride once the trails clear a little. That’ll be the real test and I doubt it’ll be as accurate.

But so far the 4 has been just as accurate.

Whoop Vs Chest strap during an hour of hard intervals. I’ll still compare whoop vs chest on a MTB ride. That should happen sometime in march or April at this point.

It’s kinda hard to compare at this view, but they’re closer than I would have expected.

I've worked on some stretching stuff too post ride. Seeing if i feel better after rides if I keep it up. I like the whole "do 10 minutes after every ride" instead of 30-45 minutes once and a while, just seems easier to do. I been following dis

Looks good man. Heart looks like it’s dropping down quickly but hard to tell how fast its dropping after efforts.

Speaking of heart rate, this is why I turn that off. If I saw how high it got at the end of this workout I may have caved a little.
I was above 180 the last 7ish minutes.

This one almost broke me. I spent a lot of time thinking about why this one hurt so bad, mostly because I have a similar one coming up tomorrow and I hope I feel much better. Last week I threw in an unscheduled 90 minute endurance ride the day before. I had a lite dinner and went to bed a little hungry. I also slept like shit and woke up earlier and then did the workout much earlier than I usually do. So looking back and writing it out, I guess I did everything wrong.

This was last Thursday, and the next day I was still really feeling. I still thought it would be a good idea to do a gym exercise, and then some core Yoga. I really overdid it and when Saturday came around I was shot. I ended up skipping the planned Saturday workout and just did an MTB ride on Sunday. I felt strong on the bike outside (which was nice) snd I'm glad I skipped the trainer session the day before.

I need to make sure not to overdo it, and If I do, I need to make sure I eat enough, and then get enough sleep to support the extra work. This goes back to my goal of not picking any specific event, but just trying to slowly and consistently get faster and stronger.

Wish me luck on tomorrow's
