James Pearl Thinks Blogging is Dead

It's something I could probably talk about every other day. Not sure it's a fun subject but I guess it's something many of us think about given our "over the hill" path we're on. I would say not a day goes by that I don't think about it in some way. Maybe I'll talk about it in a future post.

And yeah, fuck work. Eventually I'll figure out what I want to be when I grow up.
Is this an over 50 thing? I just turned 47 and I can't say mortality enters my mind much.

While not mortality, but more in the vein of getting older, one thing @ChrisG said a long time ago in relation to someone's training thread is noting that they are still on the upswing. I have crappy gauges for performance as i don't use HRM or power, but I have notice changes in perceived efforts and the resulting result. I also think of the Joe Paterno quote if you're not getting better you're getting worse.

When does that tide turn?

I think it's good to think about and plan. Not obsess over, but there's far too many older people that end up in a bad situation because they didn't get their shit together earlier.

Did they offer to sell you the condo?

eh... still hanging onto my 40s and i probably just watch too many serial killer documentaries, but i do think about it. i mean, when i go out for a ride or a hike by myself, i tell steve the route so he knows where to find my body in the event i don't return.

I would say it's more about the above, to some degree. I wrap up any of the "over the hill" kind of talk into a mortality tag. I'm not going to bed every night worrying that I might not wake up. It's more about setting yourself up to maximize the years left on the dance card. Anyway, this measures out to a much larger post and I'll get to it next week. For today, my contribution to the blogosphere can be found on the travel blog here:

I didn’t realize the condo was in Melbourne. We were thinking of going there for a quick getaway since ABE has direct and cheap flights.

Yes, very cheap, which makes it easy to do. Our first trip here on that route was like $110 for 2 people total, round trip. This trip was still maybe $220 in total for us both.

Obviously if you come here, talk to me first so I can give you some suggestions.

Reviews are not promising, but you might be able to grab something like this at AutoZone, advance auto, Walmart etc. However it may give you the secondary problem of blowing a fuse, so grab some spares for the cig lighter fuse if you go that route.

Solid.

Problem has been addressed. Not fixed but patched. This is a 2015 Mazda3 which has a mechanical actuator to adjust hot/cold and the internet showed me that this is a common issue. Popped the glove box off and sure enough the mechanism is broken. I just flipped the arm to the FUCK YES HEAT setting.

The car has been in Florida for 10 years. It’s possible nobody ever turned the dial until 2 days ago.

I had one of those in a car with no heater. They work well enough for a passenger to hold it in their hands to keep their hands warm.

150 watts is 1.5x two old incandescent light bulbs, not really a lot of heat. Better than nothing.

We were just talking to a friend about Buc-ees and we were like WTF is that. I guess it's something we need to experience first hand to really understand it. 🤷‍♀️
We had the pleasure of stopping at the Buc--ees in SC on a return trip from FL a few years ago. It is the epitome of American attitude that more is better.

Imagine 10 Super Wawas, a Cabela's, and a Walmart all under 1 roof. The wall of jerky is a sight to be seen. Gas up the car, order a hand carved brisket sandwich, grab a throw rug for the cabin, buy some hunting camo and a new Traeger smoker grill to cook your trophy kill.

There's a "only 500mi to Buc-ees" sign on the westbound PA Turnpike not far outside Philly. Shouldn't be too long before there's 1 in Pennsyltucky.
