James Pearl Thinks Blogging is Dead

25 miles of linear trail? That is impressive, what does CR have?

CR itself is 15 miles of single track give or take, which is also including the small bit of trail on municipal property near the ball fields. This is based on the trail data I have saved, which hasn't been updated in a few years. I can't recall any new trail that's been added aside from the one off the ball field parking lot but that's maybe 1/4 mile?

I'll tally up Cromwell one of these days and see what the grand total is.

December 20: The Next Day

On we go! Day 2 and we're almost done with the first part of the project. The workers came in today and started turning the machine churn into what you see below. Walking around this area of the park, Kirt and I are both pretty excited about how well this is turning out. The berm from yesterday's pic is at the end of this trail, and forms a huge banked arc that transitions you from the high side to what you see below. This is nothing like what you're used to seeing at CR. I won't say this is going to change the whole makeup of the park, since it's a small part of a much larger system. But I will say this area is going to be pretty unique compared to what you're used to. Tomorrow we'll be wrapping up the top part and starting the second half of the project. The second half has a few parts, and we'll see what we can get done in the next 2 days. The project may extend to next week, depending on energy & availability.

all the new stuff looks great like I could even ride it without smashing my knee... hope to try out all the new trails this winter when everything firms up.

December 21: Keep Truckin'

We are out again today for day 3 and my back has given up. We finished up phase 1 and jumped right to phase 3, which is a piece we weren't sure we'd have time to do. Well, things just worked out this way and here we are building more new trail, which I think will be another awesome addition to this system. What you see below is another berm with a rock drain built at the exit. The cool thing heres is that the workers just did this on their own, without direction. They're starting to be more self-directing which allows us to be able to spend time elsewhere as needed. I'll say today presented some interesting challenges & opportunities, and the stuff we did today is going to be pretty sweet when all is said and done. We were joined by teammates Brian & Dan, as well as Shimano Wayne and mini-DVW who helped build a wooden TTF over a few downed trees. Tomorrow will see the completion of phase 3, and the start of phases 2&4 with phase 4 hopefully being completed by the end of the day.

Next time you need to form an LLC and bid on the trail build job. SOOOOO much better than the Italians that ran through with a Bobcat for a few hundred thousand.

Kirt and Norm Trailbuilders. "We bring the hoes!"
I was telling Kirt he should have had Paul place the bid and then they could have done the whole thing. But there was apparently a lot more to the job than just building the trails And these things were definitely out of scope for high tech and K&N trailBuilding inc.

The Cromwell RFQ/Bid process was all-in-one and I believe King put a bid in. The winning bid for the whole project was less than the estimate would have been for the trails. In reality there was no reality where a professional trail builder was coming in. At the end of the day (I just heard someone on IG say they hate that expression but IDGAF) this turned out ok. I think we're going to have a pretty sweet set of trails at Cromwell and we won't have to try and raise $400k to build them.

Logistics made more sense to move it around. Phase 2 will get some love tomorrow.

The fact that chimney rock and change request have the same acronym is cosmic synchronicity....

Nice job out there. See you in late January.

December 22: Canada

While it’s true we went out to Cromwell for a 4th day, I’m feeling like you guys are getting bored of pics of Pure Awesome (tm) day after day. We completed phases 3&4 today and the mini ex started phase 2. That’s going to wrap up next week. In addition Kirt & the gang took on 2 more reroutes after I went home to pack the car. They’re too small to have their own phase name. Then I drove 8 hours to Canada and we ate food. My back is killing me after 4 days of trail building then 8 hours of driving. Tomorrow should be interesting but today, Simon is loving dessert.
