ISO Cheap or free 29 inch fork

If you have a 29 inch fork lying around, which might work better than the stock one on my Schwinn Taff comp, please let me know.

The bike currently has a very crappy thread less fork with quick release and 100mm travel. Looking forward to replace it with something better. So even your trash fork will be a treasure for me! 😀

Need more deets. Threadless? Length? Diameter? Tapered? Rigid? Travel?...
Thanks you are right. I'm a newbie so pardon my lack of knowledge. Here is what I know - Threadless tapered headtube length is around 140mm/5.5inch, diameter I am not sure, should be the standard one? Travel - at least 100mm.

I also have a Suntour XCR 120mm fork. 29" Tapered, Quick release, I think the tube is about 6.75". Needs a rebuild. Have the parts, just never got around to it. If interested let me know.

That sounds like a good project. Sending you a PM.

Still looking. So far did not find the right match due to steerer length or QR. Oddly, this bike has a very long steerer tube, almost 8.5. Even if I remove the spacers, I'll need almost 8" length.t Attaching the picture for reference.

Bumping it up to see if anyone got anything for me. Else I'll just have to go with the bologna fork from Amazon.😀

That Amazon fork won't be any better than what you have. Save the money you'd pay for that, add to it as you can, and buy something that actually will be an improvement.

I have a fork laying around, but I don’t know what it is and I’ve got to get to work now. Remind me to look later and get you details!

If what you have doesn't work for @cyclops, let me know the details. I'm Looking for a cheap 29 QR fork also. Can be straight or tapered. Thanks.

I agree, the Amazon Bolany fork might not be good. But it will definitely be better than the crappy coil fork on my schwinn. That is the reason I am trying to find a used fork which will work for my bike.
Is that thing straight, or tapered steerer ?
My bike's headtube is tapered, but I can mount straight or tapered both. The sealed bearing headset I got, supports both.

Thanks! I will remind you to check it.

I have a Bucklos air fork from Amazon on a budget build and it's holding up quite well. Granted, I've only ridden it at 6-Mile and did my usual 14 mile loop but it held up well carrying around 210 lbs. of fat, flesh and bones all kitted up with a hydration pack.

Thats good to hear! Even I have gathered the same so far from all the reviews. I am never going to attempt anything intense, so it should work for me on the easy trails.

What makes finding the used fork difficult is the QR and really long headtube in my bike, its 8.5", while most of the used ones I see are less than 7" steerer tube with thru axle.

I have the Bucklos on the Schwinn AL Comp. It does the job though I wouldn't go beyond places like Allaire, and certainly stay off of Coke, and Tiger Woods. Apparently you can swap out the internals with Suntour XCR32 parts. Not sure how true that is.

Thanks for another feedback. I guess that's what I'll have to settle for.
So, mine is not tapered and it’s too short of a steerer tube. Tim, I’ll send you pics.
Straight or tapered both work for me, but yeah short won't, has to be 7.5 atleast. Thanks for checking though. What kind of fork is it?

Not really. Investing a little bit more you can get either a low-end Suntour, or a Rockshox Judy. The best piece of advice I can give you is save your pennies, ride with what you have then go with either a really good used bike, or a decent new one. Though I did spend money on my Schwinn that I could have put toward a better bike it was a learning experience wrenching on a bike again. If you follow your current path you'll just wind up spending money on a bike while still wanting like I did until I got my Polygon. Even then I did wind up spending money making it "my bike", and it will have a better ROI than a Schwinn if I ever decide to sell/upgrade. Just my .02c.
