Having 38.5 years of riding under my belt, it is hard to argue that a hardtail is the choice. I loved my steel hardtail until i rode a modern FS bike and the comfort is unmatched. As others have said, it allows you to ride differently and the cornering grip alone is worth the extra weight. Stay below 130 in the rear and you are gucci.

I respectfully disagree-but then again you are talking to a DH guy. 😏
I have a riding buddy with one… the suspension has a really flat rate, you need to pack the shock with tokens to reduce the HARD bottom outs. The spur has a much more progressive suspension rate so you are not bottoming out so much….. or you could pickup a complete polygon d7 se for less that half the price of an optic frame. ….. just saying

Why is that? How do you feel about Marin bikes? Marin frames are Made in the same factory as Polygon frames kinda like Giant got their start building Specialized frames for Specialized. At least Polygon is trying to follow modern geometry numbers unlike some of the other brands out there.

Makes sense, marin bikes are about the same
Level as polygon
