Is it a fad, a group or a club? It's OOS, the thread to rule them all!

Ok, so for @fidodie , what needs to be done....What if this is done in stages? Start the spreadsheet and calendar, see how that goes and if it helps to organize things?? Good points tonight about the rides still being group rides... we can really project growth or sustainability just yet.

So it seems like a path forward would be to kill strava, post rides like before, but keep the rides post clean of BS, Or keep Strava to list the "offical" rides, and maybe close the group, send invites to those actually show up to a ride, to weed out the ones that join but never show.

the only thing it is doing is advertising events to people that don't show - or maybe get the occasional new person - which is fine.
the rides are posted properly as casual/no-drop, and as mentioned, if they join the ride, and feel the need to go off the front, that is fine.

we rode with scott today, he is fast as hell, and one of the more technically solid riders you'll find out there. he knew it was a casual ride,
and acted accordingly.

ok - eyes are closing.

But he was soooo overheating. What was that all about? Good night!!

It was good today. We didn't all have to ride at the same pace, but we stuck together nicely and everyone knew what kind of a ride this was.

Just keep it fun guys. If we need to take turns listing rides or whatever so one person dont get burned out, so be it. I dont think it's something most people can't handle. But honestly, you get assigned your ride, you list it yourself, you make it happen, on to the next guy. It's not rocket science, and we dont need spread sheets, waivers, Strava, or social media to get'er done. Just ride your f#$k'n bikes with your friends, and enjoy !....mtbiker87..out!

First time caller, long time listener.

Speaking for a modicum of experience, I guess this is the start of year 12 running this, I will offer a few insights. First being that if there’s no clear leader, the overly-structured approach will fail. That one person needs to be highly motivated to make this happen and NGAF if other people help or not. Leaders lead, they don’t hope it works out. I’m not seeing that so much here so I’d be concerned you’re settling yourself up for failure before you start.

No waivers. I’ve done some homework here and have opinions from an attorney on this. Waivers can actually hold you more accountable in some cases. If you’re going to do waivers then you need insurance. Drop the idea entirely IMO.

I think you guys should remain as-is and feed the rides to Joy every week to post. Then once a month offer a standalone OOS group ride thread. That will allow you to dip your toes in the water.

I think maybe you want to let the overall idea brew a bit, kinda like sun tea on a cloudy week. Gotta give it a long time.

If only you posted that at the beginning. I could've done something else for 2 hours. Haha!! JK...it was fun, guys 🙂

I just re-read over all the comments and the basic jist is we go back to where we were before.
No organization or administration... just a free for all rides. If it happens... it happens. If not. it doesn't.

Strava is toast

Yay.

calendar
@Mare45 strava replaced the calendar because people had access issues not using Google.

strava
Hate it or love it strava is here to stay it's to valuable and powerful a tool not to. I texted @Paul H this, we should delete it and set up a new one once we hammer out criteria to join the page(not calling it a group or club).

The strava page should handle our ride, to join you need to be invited but the rides should be left open. If you have a friend who wants to join the ride they can and once they meet criteria they are invited to the page.

size
this is irrelevant to me, I'm looking to ride with people. If I have to go out by my self I won't. The more people who are in the more chance to ride.

Legality
Get fucked, we aren't an organization, a club a team or anything. You come out on your own accord. There are no ride leaders it's just someone who knows the park and your gonna follow that person.

Idk how but I want to get as far away from this, no waivers no spreadsheet no official anything. Can't sue something that doesn't exist rule 1 of bike club there is no bike club.

core group of riders has access to edit strava if you see something that needs to be done do it. Someone update today's ride for me after I posted it, it was perfect if there were a few of us doing this it wouldn't be so burdensome. This group can grow you can drop out if you want and just join rides or you can be a fly on the wall and edit shit.

schedule
List out parks not people if people know it step up and we'll follow(no leaders) be prepared for rides where no one knows the place and we just follow the trails. I don't want anyone assuming someone is responsible or taking ownership these aren't our parks they belong to the public and you enter at your own risk.

feelings
I love riding with my friends, if I'm on a trail with you your now my friend deal with it. There's to much trying to get organized and to much burden for one person. The general bs thread is where rides get made. If you don't want an 8am ride tell us where you would like to ride if other people want in it gets posted on strava and those who want to commit will those who can't won't and can find another ride or continue the conversation for another ride.

Max... tag me, PM me, txt me... whatever. We will ride.
But OOS Inc is dead. Sad day for sure.

I think I’m confused a bit here by your stance though I guess your first post was a beer can. You seem to have been pushing the “fuck organization” agenda slightly on this thread but now seem sad there’s no organization.

Just to clarify, the S doesn’t stand for Sense does it?

You guys are entertaining. Whatever you do (I haven't a say here), I hope you guys keep posting funny shit and keep the rides visible on here so I can join sometimes (I'll have my clash box set strapped to the bars for Paul to wittness).
