Is it a fad, a group or a club? It's OOS, the thread to rule them all!

How much time is necessary to post a Strava ride? I've no idea! Can someone explain what does that requires because I have a hunch this maybe a biggie...

if there isn't a route to be defined, about 5 minutes. but there are always changes afterwards - this is where making the ride coordinator and
admin for their week might help - but then someone has to be the one that makes them the admin!

i like strava for the push notifications - i might not have noticed next friday at wildcat if not.

What do we want this group to be?
Fun. No club. Not in the sense of "Central Jersey Bike Club" type thing. Not knocking any clubs, but they do something like that to grow and sounds like one way to manage this is to stunt growth (if that's possible).

I'm with @mtbiker87 on this. How did this become anything more than just a bike ride? Am I naive to something or just dumb and don't see it?
True. Is the growth that's talked about because there are a million posts a day on the forum here? Doesn't sound like the group rides are too big yet.

The only reason Strava was helpful was to keep track of the rides. And for that it worked. If we could just stop jamming up a ride only thread with meaningless BS, you wouldn't need Strava.

If we start talking waivers and spreadsheets...you-er going to see the originals drop out of this. OOS was friends riding bikes. Meeting new people, riding new trails...having fun. This....this is beginning to sound like exactly the stuff I want get away from by ridding my bike in the woods.

I share your views but at the same time it may not be a bad idea to establish some sort of protection for the group itself, given its own nature it maybe welcoming the wrong type of person that could ruin it for everyone. At the end of the day what we love to do comes with some risks of bodily harm attached, and being out of shape adds some risks to the equation. I am 52, suffer from HBP and out of shape and as such I'm more subject than others to a number of potential health issues. Would I hold anybody else responsible for what happens to me while riding ? No. Do I know that the next guy would do the same ? no. It's a litigious world out there.

The legal thing could be a pain I think??? What are the thresholds before we need waivers?

let's let this sit - someone on the forum offered some assistance - and the waiver may be a thread that you need to post 'agree' or something simple.
just stating that you are responsible for yourself.

i'm not interested in anyone coding spreadsheets, i use them for organization - i also use google forms to feed them.
the idea would be to have multiple people have write access to share the admin load. they can be embedded in the first post of a thread, and
are dynamic - they update independent of the forum. it is also difficult to have multiple people be able to update a single post on the forum, or even a single thread.
