Is it a fad, a group or a club? It's OOS, the thread to rule them all!

Is there a final decision on something or the thread has gone to 'looks like mud but it's something smellier' instead?

My understanding is that its a free for all
No strava and no scheduled rides but pop up rides thru postings on the rides only thread.

I was under the impression that Max was in control of the Strava?
Scheduled rides on the Ride thread Walt started?
Normal everyday talk be it whatever on the OOS thread?
What did I miss? Did this change?

@qclabrat only volunteered for the interim until this was settled
If he wants to continue, that's his decision but that's entirely up to him but when I spoke to him at the gravel ride, his intention was that it was only temporary.

Ok this where I get lost. What did Walt volunteer for? I don't understand if I post a ride on the thread what does that entail other than me posting the ride and others reading it? Does something happen to the post that Walt has to do something for it to post and be read? Help me here.

Nothing happens. What you post is the ride and that's it.
But you can clarify with him. I don't want to put words in his mouth.

This is the issue - pressuring Paul to make the decision on what to do.
And not you specifically Frank, just in general.

if someone were to take the time to write up how to post a ride, what info, and where it should be posted, and perhaps suggest a more efficient way,
maybe a change to the forums would make an improvement - we would comment on that, work out any concerns, and implement it. we can democracy all
we want, decide what we want, but it takes doers, not deciders.

i have a proposal on the table, and got a red light. i might say screw it, and implement it anyway. it could be used as a formal way to stay informal (like that makes sense)

couple of people have offered - 'just tell me what to do' - and that is really appreciated.

this is an incomplete list of incomplete thoughts, but it should be enough to seed someone with a few minutes, and maybe their nightschool project in business 101

1. someone write a mission statement - i've seen that's not what we're about pop up a couple times. well, what is this about?
2. someone write the ride expectations
- how the rides should implement the mission
- role of the ride coordinator (i want to move away from leading, as in being out front, and move towards organizer)
- what info needs to be decided, and published (and who or how is it being published? oos calendar? through @MissJR? strava?) if at all?
-- and when it is published, don't make more work for other people by changing the details 10x in a week.
- post ride write-up - do it, it is fun, and will be even more fun to look back on them.
3. will there ever be a clothes order again? another thing Paul took on - i'm sure he'd share the knowledge over a beer in his garage....
4. what other casual roles can people take on? even if rotating, just doing it, and if it is harder than filling out a form, and clicking a button, maybe writing up a simple how-to

i'm sitting inside sick, and i'm getting dizzy if i stand too long - so this is going to be a banner day. Jim's dot better start moving again soon,
or i'm really going to start ranting. maybe i'll get drunk early. ha, you thought i was already drunk, didn't ya.

Eloquently put, that's pretty much what I have been trying to say since the beginning. While I use a lot of words they often do not come out in the correct order or at least one that makes sense for others. My number one excuse for this is 'english is not my first language', I use it all the time with my wife and it ends up making things worse almost 100% of the times, so what the heck, I'll use it here to!

I say that this really needs to be discussed in front of a steak or some delicious food and some mildly alcoholic beverage, there's nothing like a napkin to draw a mission statement!

Let's do it!

This is a freakin train wreck... not sure if I contributed to it or not... but it is.

Schizophrenia of OOS?
I thought you guys were in favor of de-organization. I could have sworn there were nothing but Yay's in favor of de-organization.
Why were there silence, other than Max, when the question was asked?

Whoah, I didn't get that it's just going to be a 100% free for all. There's a ride leader for many weekends out. Keep that going.

I am repeating myself...maybe what I am saying is annoying or missing something, but I just think it makes sense, so here I go again.

1. Thread for the rides, first post updated with current ride. Maybe locked so that it can't turn into crazy discussions all the time.
a. Post basic details - date, time, location, rough pace, and specific "need to know" info based on the specific ride.
b. If the rides get unmanageable attendance-wise, just split into groups. I have never been on ride where that wasn't possible.
2. Have another thread for the crazy banter about everything.
3. If Strava continues, I need to learn about how to post a ride there before I can comment, but it's not hard to learn or do such things.

IMO, it's simple, it's neat, it's easy to decipher.

Or, create single page website with the ride schedule and some details. Put a link to the site on here, facebook, etc. You can even have page 1 for the schedule, page 2 for its own forum where the banter can occur. Or schedule at top, banter at bottom. The discussion can get messy (in terms of how many posts and topics), but contain in nicely in one place and it's less messy.

@serviceguy I am up for some delicious food. Let's get some key folks who will step up and let's meet. When are folks free? Weekday? Weekend? I'll take the lead to schedule this so that it doesn't get lost in a hundred posts and go nowhere.

i'd keep the writing to 1 or 2 people, but i'd do dinner at arthurs just because.

I thought Paul gave the Strava rights to Max.

When MTBNJ has a group ride a few times a year, they start a thread and Joy lists it on “What’s Going On This Weekend”.

Shrpht325 has a thread Fun Friday’s.

Sarcaro has the Wild Cat Wednesday’s.

Most of the original members(including myself) of OOS want to keep it simple. We are not looking to be confrontational or draw a line in the sand. Obviously it’s an open forum and various options can continue to be discussed. The key ? is trying to get as many of the people that are involved together in person.

Short track will get the attention it well deserves for the next 3 weeks. Even if I can’t make every race I plan on being supportive.

It’s winter so as previously stated, slow season. It would be a good time to get together to discuss further. In the interim @Miracle Max Loves Garbage is running the Strava group.

I will add my discussion points but honestly not sure why it changed from a couple months ago.

Ride locations were posted weeks in advance with no "leader" why did that change to having a leader?

You need 2/3 Strava admins to post the rides on strava. I will volunteer but i think we already have enough?

The big question is wether we want 1 OOS ride a week or do we want to have multiple?

1) Post a ride in the OOS ride thread admin moves it to Strava with a time that the ride STARTS and location.
