Irene. Worst ever?

wow, some of the pictures make me feel so lucky to still have everything. One thing that I notice is; when something like this happens, people all come out to help each other. Art was helping our elderly neighbor cut up a tree that fell in his yard, and even the kids riding skateboards in the street came over to help. It's nice to know your community is there to help in times of need.

Luke, sorry to hear about all your stuff, and the same goes out to anyone else who had severe damage.

I ran into my friend Gerry today who is a lineman for Pse&g, he was working since early sunday morning and had his camera with him the entire time, he's going to email some of the better pics to me(hopefully) and then I'll try to post up here.

WTF? Im so confused after watching that.

BTW- Sorry to hear about all of your stuff and everyone else who lost so much. I hear people saying how this storm was overrated and how it was no big deal. Those people are nieve and dont know how lucky they are. There are people all of the east coast suffering right now. If the storm was "no big deal" to you, then you are one of the lucky ones.

So true. I had a trickle of water in the basement and we're under a boil water alert. I was annoyed until I started to see the real aftermath and hear the stories of people truly affected, I feel lucky. Take a look at Vermont for example...some places are totally FUBARed. As weird as it seems, social media is bringing out the reality of the situation while mass media planted BS seeds in the head of many.

Made it into the shop today. Had to park in town at the train station and walk through the water to get there. Water is still hip deep in some sections. Water in the lot is only about curb height, but it seems to be much deeper in the intersection.

I walked from the shop to the post office to get our mail. Same story in that direction. The post office and Shop Rite have water about curb height. Paulie's got hit pretty hard, there's water inside the restaurant.

Should be a few more days before we can get in there by car. Might be even longer for me to get in there with MY car 😉

I got to my work today to check it out too. It's going to be a WEEK before we can get there by car. I had to dodge the national guard and tons of cops to get through. But once I got onto new Fairfield island, they just thought I was one of the stranded locals and I was free to roam the streets.

The easiest road in, New Dutch Lane, next to the airport

Unique photo, that's the path to take to my office, through their lot and through the lot with the Thunderbird. Commerce Road is too deep.

Ken Lockwood Gorge:

Ken Lockwood Gorge, Hunterdon Co., post-Irene. If you aren't familiar with this, it's a nature preserve with a 2 mile stretch of dirt/gravel road...much of the road was washed away. Oh - and the crazy kayakers told *me* to be careful on the bike in case I went around a corner and there was a tree down!!
