I haven't been to a Interbike since I think 1998? It was held in Philly and I remember two things, the McMahon Gazell Mountain Bike which went out of business a few years later (Specalized stole there design as I remember) and Gary Fisher holding tribal meetings with new buyers in his Teepee..very cool idea. Oh..and I can't remember the name of it but someone designed a detachable shock that somehow linked up to the rear drop outs and gave 2 inches of travel..good idea...but everyone was looking for the real thing🙂

I remember that rear shock. I had it on my Merlin for a hot minute.

Merlin was the Ti bike to own. I rode a Litespeed Owl Hollow at Tsali, NC one spring and love the bike (was much lighter then and it wasn't whippy at all). I couldn't afford a Merlin or Litespeed at the time..but found a good deal on a DEAN..it was the low end of the DEAN line and to be honest it never felt right under me. kept bending seat posts on it...seemed the frame was designed wrong to me? It had a very low seat tube..hence making the seat post stick way out. and being tall it didn't help the matter. Only rode the DEAN for a year and 2 seat post later..I sold it. I like Ti alot...but after riding Carbon Fiber I it fell out of favor with me 🙁 Everything is a trade off...Carbon is great..but after time they always crack or at least chip and they are super light..it get a different feel with Ti..lighter than Steel..and a much softer ride then Aluminum or even Steel..but still weighs more then Carbon. Anyone remember the Diamondback Steel Bike the was wrapped in Carbon..that also lasted a hot minute..LOL?
