i was actually there today, i wrote the red trail in and then took the white trail and rode to nice downhill section and it was great, then i turned around and hiked it back up. i finished the red trail down to the yellow which was flooded in parts but could be ridden around. then i took the yellow trail all the way back. the view at the top of the yellow was amazing. all clear skies and could see all of NYC and the empire state building.

I'm looking to ride this trail, is it beginner/intermediate difficulty?

None of my friends ride around here, but i ride a lot when I'm at college in VA with my buds there, but I know what it's like to get lost with friends, I can't imagine by myself lol.

Is the park tricky or straight forward?

Thanks

I just got out there today and it was a good time.

I entered at the yellow trail on Reservoir Drive.

The beginning was fairly tough for me, I haven't seen that many rocks before! but after I got past a tall incline with a lot of loose rocks I was able to ride fairly well (I actually impressed myself, I haven't ever been on that many rocks).

I took the yellow trail for a bit until I found the red trail, I then took the red trail until I ended up a WPU's Parking lot area (all I really saw was a road with wpu signs all around it) After this i turned back the way I came.

I obviously had to try that tough incline I walked up in the beginning and tried going down....lets just say that went terrible lol...I don't know how anybody could do that!!

Being new to all these rocks, is it okay to use your brakes (back and front)?

I was using my breaks the whole time and they couldn't even make me go slow enough w/o me killing myself!

Overall it was a great ride, I enjoyed it, and it was a good workout! I can't wait to explore it a bit more!

hey there,..i'm glad you like it,it's little bit rough isn't it?
did you rode the white trails?

see on the trails someday,man!

Yeah, lol it was a pretty rough, I wasn't use to that type of riding at all (all the rocks amazed me)

I didn't hit the white trail, I'm going back tomorrow to explore more, I may try parking at WPU instead of Riverside Drive b/c that beginning section there was out of my league!

How do these trails compare to the ones at Ringwood? Are they smoother?

I also need to buy a co2 pump and start carrying a spare tube, I have been getting lucky, and after that ride I feel very lucky none of my tubes popped!

yeah,.ringwood is the best trails around here(north jersey)it's wayyy better than HM for sure.some section trails at ringwood are smooth,...

terrain: is extremely rocky in sections, fairly rocky everywhere.

topography:very hilly, almost mountanous, lots of long and extended climbs.

trails type:lots of technicall fire road, innumerable singletrack trails.

difficulty:intermediate to technically and advanved/expert riders.
(hope,my reviews won't detered you from riding here😀) but,..like they say "practice make perfect",....

co2 and spare tube also tools are very essentiall/must have for riding all trails around north jersey here.

happy trails,man!!

no lol u didn't turn me off to try, I like a challenge!

I have been timid to go out b/c I think my bike needs a tune up (it has been around 8 months! lol) My big concern is my brake pads.

I also really need to get one of those co2 pumps!

When I used to go here (last year), I always parked at the WPU lot. Although it was close, I stopped going cause I can drive a bit further to Skyline (Ramapo Mountain) or Ringwood. Ringwood is much more better maintained and more trails, has lots of rocks (but not the loose kind .. they're pretty embedded into the ground for the most part .. makes riding experience better, imo), but it's hard to find your way around in there for the good stuff.

As far as using both brakes goes, I'm no expert, but I do it all the time. Make sure to lean back a lot if it's really steep downhill, so you don't go over the handlebars. You can even put your belly on your seat.

i am looking to shoot footage for a video at high mountain, if you have a cam and like doing DH and sum FR let me kno because i can do all the editing for the video. please PM me if your interested
