High Bridge Flow Trails Status

Holy hell - if you have any formal chainsaw training please prepare to volunteer for the bucking team.
perhaps we'll rent a dingo or something with a claw to reduce cutting.

3 sawyers, 3 hours today. 50+ trees and 100ish to go (and only the easy ones were cut)

end of day 1.

the ones left standing in the middle are all coming down - they need to be climbed.
if there are leaves on them, they are an oak tree. so staying.

Someone needs to come up with something creative for the 4' high stumps.

Wow. Seems like a big cleanup effort. I'm not a trained sawyer but will volunteer for manual labor moving logs and hand-sawing limbs. 4' stumps can be used as fill/retaining walls for new jumps/berms or use them as natural fence posts. Bury the cut logs in new jumps too! Big bonfire fundraiser party for the trails to get rid of some brush? Free firewood for the townsfolk? Definitely gonna need sunscreen this summer when riding here.

Will there be an opportunity to pick up logs to chop into firewood? I am not authorized to use a chainsaw, but I can pick up wood and remove it from the premises.

short answer is no.

longer answer is that there is guidance on emerald ash borer infested wood - even after the tree is dead.
the community has decided to have the logs stay in place, rather than risk any additional spread.

And there is a pump track under here!

Every tree without leaves on it in the background is a dead ash.

The ones on the right are threatening the barn and dog park. They are out-of-scope.

There is early talk of firewood being made available to Borough residents. We'll share details when plans are approved.

Anyone in the know please keep updated on volunteer opportunities for cleanup. No chainsaw, but we have work gloves and can carry/drag wood pretty well 🙂
We'll update everyone when the trees are on the ground and tge volunteer scope of work is approved. No timeline estimate just yet, but all involved are heavily engaged and working hard to get to the finish line.

Man it’s gonna be blazing hot there in the summer now without any canopy of trees.

Glad to see the work getting done tho so no one gets hurt by a falling tree.

The Woodland Terrace connector has been cleared -

In general, the work has been going well, albeit slowly. A little rain, a little politics, a holiday, and the respiratory illnesses circulating.

1 more big day should do it, as long as it doesn't get sidetracked.

Like when a 90' tree starts falling the expected way, then spins towards the sawyer (not me.) it was time to use that escape route...
Not to mention the tree is now hung in another that needs to be felled.

The bar did not survive the encounter.

It is no joke. So many things can go wrong.

One reverse barber chaired. So it fell the opposite way while creating a giant spring that can throw the trunk or splinters in any direction.
Problem is that exit routes are planned away from the fall.

Even the predictable ones are a bit scary. Just so damn big
