I am new to mountain biking and I am looking for a good park for beginners. I tried the blue trail at KVSP but it was too difficult for me to ride, I ended up walking the bike for most of the trail. I rode 28 miles on the Sussex branch trail which goes thru KVSP but it was too easy. Can any one recommend a good beginner trail/park in north or central Jersey?

Welcome to the boards...

Central Jersey..

I used to ride Hartshorne, Huber Woods alot and will be coming back down there in a week or so to check things out. It was a great setup. Allaire was a good time too especially near the descent powerlines but the sand!!!.. and the cops when I was younger ticketing me for my loud exhaust...

Welcome!

zipping a bit south will find some flatter and less rock strewn rides. allaire and 6 mile run. Jump on a few organized rides, and meet some people! time in the car costs time on the bike, so....

to stay north:

to step it up, try the rides at the tourne that don't go up the mountain. then go up the mountain! i haven't been there in 15 years - can someone check in on this? more trails there now than i remember...

rode yellow at lewis morris for the first time the other day. about 250 feet of climbing in 5 miles - not alot/not insignificant. it is spaced out too, so nice work/recover. some rocks, some roots, but mostly sandy soil. was with someone with local knowledge - otherwise would have gotten lost...

lewis morris route the last loop is on the run route of this....

for motivation, register for the mt man biathlon (duathlon) ! always good to have an event coming up....heard it is very casual, so a good time should be had!

If you like "rails to trails" the columbia trail is nice.

If you want to travel a little, Allaire has very beginner friendly parts, but also have some fun stuff for when you are feeling more confident.

Welcome to boards. North Jersey doesn't have a whole lot to offer in terms of easy trails. Your best bet would be to check out Lewis Morris and Six Mile Run. These parks have minimal elevation and smoother rolling terrain.

That a look at some video here: http://videotrailreviews.com/trails/

welcome from North jersey as well. I started off at lewis Morris as well will really get your cardio in shape and provide a variety of difficulties. Just remember its ok to walk what you need to. Most of my riding has been over in Morris County Park systems. I do ride after work around 520pm during the week, with daylight getting tight normally done by 620/ 630.
