Great Gobbler Race

Hi everyone! NYCMTB is putting on this gravel and XC race next month at the newly opened Fresh Kills Park We would really appreciate some JORBA participation if at all possible. Plus there's beer!!

Riding friend of mine from Staten Island just posted this into my strava ride comments today. Not sure im up for 6 hours of riding but mostly I Can’t believe they turned that place into a park!! Grew up smelling it all the time.

You don't HAVE to do 6 hours. I'm sure there's some cheeky ways to exploit this tactically to win, but I'm not smart enough to figure them out. I'll be there with bells on either way.

Do you have more details on what the course is like, the bikereg page is lite on details.
Is it all dirt roads?

So the discrepancy for the mileage is due to us awaiting final approval from NYC Parks/Fresh Kills Alliance.

The route is open and very fast, about 80% gravel. There's a 360 view of the city and NJ from the top, so that's very cool as well. I'll try to get a ride in on the course and grab some pics to post. Work schedule isn't too cooperative until Sunday/Monday.

Ok thanks, sounds good, no worries.
So with the 80% gravel, is the other 20 paved or singletrack?.

A bit of both. I'd say even some of the gravel is paved chip seal like. I'm planning on scouting it this Friday or Sunday (stupid work getting in the way of things). Flagship Brewery will be on hand, so that's awesome. Working on my LBS (Roy's of Sheepshead) for some cool prizing/raffling.

Quick update for everyone. I wasn't able to get in to get a preview of the course as promised, but the course and race are all still a go.

Flagship Brewery is confirmed as a sponsor and will be there with beer.

Roy's Sheepshead Bicycles (my LBS) has generously donated to the prizing/raffling. I'm not sure what the format and breakdown of what goes to who is yet, but here's what they gave:

8 Cannondale Trail helmets
6 Supacaz Smash pedals
2 SRAM XX1 Eagle Cranksets
2 SRAM AXS GX upgrade kits

Suffice it to say, I was floored by the generosity.
