UT already donated me those, was looking for something not the size of a pop warner football

The Ritchey WCS ones are very small and thin. Also the Bontragers. I cut mine down so it's the width of my hand from the back of the bar to the tip of the bar end...

Then Mark and I were drilling it back to the shop and I took myself out again. We were cutting through a deer path and my bar end got caught in a vine or something. Ripped the bike out from under me, I flipped off the bike and pile drove my head into the ground, then smacked my tailbone on something. I had to lay there for a little while before I could get up, I rang my bell pretty hard. I had to walk back to the shop because I couldn't sit on my bike. That's gonna sting for a few days at least...My butt hurts.

I remember trying the bar ends that i eventually gave pearl a few times...I really liked them for pedaling in TT mode, but after doing what you just did, I realized that it was not going to work well in the end. Now I just hold the end of the bars and pretend 🙂

This is the second time I've caught the bar... Happens at night because my eyesight isn't so good...

i like my bar ends for long grinders during adventure races. i got some cheapo chinese carbon ones that work great. Ive caught them once or twice though and its rough.

This^^. I put bar ends on for the W101. It helps to have that extra hand position when you're on the bike for long rides, especially with gravel road climbs.. I hated them in the woods. I felt trapped on the bars.

I used to run bar ends on the Misfit when I was running narrower bars for better hand position climbing, but I run pretty wide bars now and I prefer that. Never used them for long flat sections anyway -- I've never had an issue with my arms there. I like the front end super-low, so most of the stress I get from long gravel sections isn't in my hands - it's in my upper arms. I've spent a lot of time trying to strengthen my core so I can keep them as relaxed as possible, and I find that works really well but I have to keep up with it. (Funny how that works, isn't it? You can spend the entire year strengthening your core and then take it easier for a few weeks and it feels like it's all gone!)

Ok, I'm gonna catch up now.

A) My tailbone HURTS a lot.

B) Moving on...

Friday.

I rode my road bike to work. Seriously, ROAD BIKE. It was just as boring and terrible as I remember. I'm babying my booty so this is the babiest thing I think of....

I did get a present to make me forget about my road bike and being a baby. SICK!!

I was excited enough that I put it on at home in my basement. It actually went very well and I was easily able to seat the new tire tubeless using a normal floor pump. SWEET!!

Saturday.

Decided to stay local due to the snow because, track car. My GTI is seriously 1 step away from not being street driveable.

Cut fresh tracks along the tracks, and then jumped on the D&R back into my hood. The tires were perfect for this kind of snow and cut through easily. We got around 4 to 5 inches or so.

Due to still babying my tailbone I only lasted about 2.5 hours. Blah.

Sunday.

Went down to Hartshorne to do the triple park loop. Met Sean and Steve and Ed and we rode around. They got less snow down there so it was more of a slushy mess. The HuskerDu performed less than good. I eventually bottomed it out at around 2PSI just to get traction and then it wasn't as bad, but still terrible.

I don't think Steve has ever been to the beach, he was very excited.

Monday.

SNOW STORM!!

I swapped the Dilly5s back onto my bike for the impending white doom that awaits us all. We closed early today but instead of hitting the woods, I hit the ER for some X-Rays. NOT SWEET!!

I didn't break any bones thankfully, but my tailbone is badly bruised. Whatever that means. They say it's gonna hurt for a few weeks and there isn't dick I can do to make it better other than lay around like an idiot. I asked if I will damage it farther with riding. They says no. Take some Aleve and be a man they said. (they didn't say that) I said that. We'll see how it goes. It is painful to ride at this point so I may lounge around a little.

Sorry to hear about your butt 🙂 Maybe one of those huge, cushy saddles can help? I don't know if the bike shops stock these but I've seen them in Walmart and Target. In fact, some are like a saddle cover made of some kind of gel that you put over your saddle.

How's the D4 on front in terms of self steering compared to the HD? Are you getting anything with studs for the back? D4 or D5?

I hated the HuDu up front. The D4 or D5 are the standard go to tires for me. I also have Larrys and Escalators. Only one studded D4 although I have a kit to do my 5 should the need arise. As the 5 is my deep snow tire there's not usually ice to deal with in those conditions...

It's pretty much just a lighter version of the Fatboy...Which is all I was looking for. I'll have to wait until it's loaded and gets some 8+ hour rides on it to really know 🙂

Jim,

A little ways back you mentioned you were going to try a stans and gorilla tape tubless set-up, how has it worked?

Thanks!
