Going Long and Hard.

I was really surprised when I read that. My SL5 came with tubeless ready Roval CLX32s.

I did the Training Module on Specialized's site and I still don't get it. They claim to save weight by not being tubeless, but the CLX64s that come with the Venge are lighter, faster, and tubeless.

Oops, I did it again. Century #2.

Bike is much more my vibe with 32s. The correct answer is probably the stock SL6 wheelset, CL50s with 28s.

Commute + 2.5 Mile Walk to hit Winter Lake Lodge this evening. (I'm the Owl)

Here's a Throwback from when I got 3rd here during my Rookie Season in 2016.

This was my FB Cover Photo for years, such a great memory.

Flash Forward to this morning, racing a Hurricane to work...

67-Miler on the Tarmac, followed by 10 at NICA Practice.

Which took me through Rainy Pass Lodge, over the Pass itself, and at the doorstep of the Gorge. Easily the most Iconic section of the ITI.

Here's a few refreshers from this section.

Photo above is hands down my favorite memory of any Adventure I've been on. Eating Oatmeal in melted snow for breakfast, Rebecca and I prepped for the hardest section of the Race. We were ready to roll just as the sun came up in order to have as much daylight as possible to go over the Pass.

And here's the exact spot I am on the above Map. Looking into the Gorge.

So cool, Jim! A virtual race, and you know where your virtual self is located on the actual course where you've (actually) raced in reality.

Awesome pictures too!

Commute today. Didn't make up a ton of ground on the Map, but I'm through the scary part of the Gorge where someone falls through the ice every year.

Seriously gnarly section.

In contrast, here's a much more positive picture from this morning's ride in.

Another weekend doing things. 110 miles yesterday. 71 miles this morning. 10 moderate NICA Practice this afternoon.

Hanging onto the individual lead in the ITI Race. The first place team just finished today. 2nd place individual is on the Team that won. None of us Solo folk have made it through McGrath yet, but I'm through Nikolai...

If i had to bet, Jim has an a very high max fat wattage by just riding.

My FTP peaks between 360-390 watts depending on when I do my Test. My Z2/3 sweet spot is right under 300 Watts for a 200k. When I set the Cranbury course record I sat at exactly 300 watts for just under 7 hours. For the Longest Day record it was 275 for 10:45. I have maybe 40 minutes these days close to FTP.

Most of my training is focused on Volume to prep for huge races. The ITI is like doing a 24 hour race every day for 3 weeks straight. Self-supported.

We focused a ton on this when I was working with Ken. Instead of building a Turbo 8 Cyclinder, we focused on building a highly efficient 12 Cyclinder.

This is why I can take a month off and then put in a 500 mile week with 3 centuries and feel like I haven't ridden.

V8 T > V12.

I am not doing anything structured this year but have never tested very high on ftp. My highest was 348 when I weighed 192lbs. Barely 4w/kg if it even was. My ftp is bot that now but my 1 min and 5 min power are at all time highs now.
As much as people downplay strava segments they have been my intervals this year. Having a neighbor who relentlessly goes after your koms just fuels the fire.
I do a lot of z2 base from november-may and from then on out it’s almost all z1 with all out efforts randomly thrown in.
I find the higher 1/5 min power works out much better in 100 mile races than ftp does.
Training is such a random thing. W/kg matters but not so much at ftp vs w/kg at 1-5 min efforts. This is especially true in xc or crit style races.

I don't use my FTP for anything. My only focus is on building a 300 Watt Zone2. Which takes a lot of Volume. Like, a way lot. My short power is completely gone. If my FTP is 390, my 5-Minute is like 395. The days of doing 425 Watts for TTs, gone.

So I always wonder, why don’t you race something like the sugarcane 200? Even a race like mohican is great if you can put out a steady 300 watts for 7 hours.
