Going Long and Hard.

I'm not sure about how well the 27.5+ will go through sand. I know even with a 4-inch tire soft sand is difficult.

Perfect, thanks Jim. I'll just wait til the sand is a bit less sugary, try to plot the least crappy route, and expect to spend some time walking. Possibly the whole ride. Problem solved, cash still in hand!

Do you think 27.5+ is pretty pointless then, or just not suitable for sand (and I'm going to guess snow)?

I feel like 27.5+ would be sick for summer trail use. It's not a fat bike by any means. Maybe if the trails are groomed during winter it could work?

It's more like, bounce, bounce, fall at this point!!

Me and Steve rode around Summit after work screwing around. I always forget how difficult trials riding actually is, but it's so much fun. Totally different muscle groups, balance points, techniques, etc. I feel like my "base skill set" is always there. I can hop on and off tables, ledges, little gaps and such pretty much at any time. To think at one point I was one of the best in the country is comical though and I highly doubt that skill set will ever come back. My 40 year old body doesn't enjoy doing drops on a rigid 26" bike, but I feel like I need to cross train a bit, and nothing works your upper body and lower back like a trials bike.

HbMTB Tuesday @ The Forbidden Forest. So the storm took a lot of the dirt off the trails and left a ton of exposed rock, which is pretty awesome IMO. The River Trail is actually destroyed though. The river is now right alongside the trail and where the trail was there's piles of rocks and trees. So if everyone that rides there works on a section here and there we should be able to get the trail open again before the primo fall mountain biking season.

Thanks for the update Jim. Sad news about the River Trail. Hopefully we can open it back up. Wonder if they ever have volunteer trail maintenance days there?
