Going Long and Hard.

GTI day!!

Went up to peep the GTI I found on WhoreTex. While on paper this thing seemed too good to be true, it was indeed, true. I pulled up to this kid's house in Wayne and the entire driveway is filled with lowered VW's. MK6 GTI, a super pimp MK4 GLI, an Audi S5, R32, MK3 GLX, and a brand new '86 Cabrio with the window sticker on it. WTF!!??

I ask what the deal is with all these pimp VW's. This kid was in his 20's and didn't seem to me that he had this baller status. Turns out his dad, mom, and sister all work for VW. His dad's been with a dealer up there for like 40 years. Was a mechanic for over 30. I talked to his dad for a bit, he's owned VW's his entire life, including all the cool ones. We talked about the Bunny for a bit. The mom played with the boys and talked about girl stuff while we were out playing with the cars. Super nice people.

So the GTI I went to look buy. Black MK4 VR6. '01. It was his dad's, then his. Dealer maintained it's entire life. Super clean. Blah, blah, blah. I decided to buy it the second he started it up. There's nothing on the planet that sounds as good as a VR6 with a little work. It's got a 42 Draft Design 2.5" exhaust and a K&N drop-in with a chip, sounds insane. I kept goosing it and driving in too low a gear to make it to burble. Car is slammed on H&R coilovers. Black Forest poly mounts everywhere in the engine bay, except one, which he gave me new in the box. Has some interior stuff done. The vents have been swapped with GLI vents. It's got R32 lights and a 20th grill. He also gave me smoked and blacked out headlights. I'll put the black ones in a sell the R32's. I'll also pick up smoked tails and side markers at WaterFest to murder everything out. I'll keep my eyes peeled for some wheels too😀

They were nice enough to follow me home in the GLI with their plates still on the GTI. When we got here I pulled the plates off and they drove back home. Execpt I left my bikes at the shop and now I have no way to get there, so it would seem today will be a recovery day. Oh well, maybe I'll detail the new dub😉

Oh, looking at that picture with the stock wheels on it I forgot to mention it's got 18mm spacers on the rear and 8 on the front. That's how the wheels are sorta flush. For my standards they're flush, but in most euro-stance circles that shit ain't gonna fly🙄

HA!! Wait, there's a sticker on the back that says something like that. I'll take a picture of it before I peel them all off😀

This is low enough for this car. If I drop it lower it will kinda defeat the purpose of getting a daily driver. I already have a car that's an inch off the ground with tires rubbing on the fenders as per VW rules:getsome:

congrats on the purchase sons. makes me want to be carless for 2 months so i can get a new car toy 🙂

Damn son that is HOT

PS I would like to make an appointment for lunch quorn parm in exchange for a lesson in brake bleeding. 🙂

Monday.

Quasi bikeless today. Mountain bike and road bike are at the shop. Didn't feel like riding my TT bike and my CX bike has no wheels on it. I thought about riding my Earl to the shop to get my road bike but got sidetracked by my pretty new GTI😀

Decided instead to pull it into the garage and detail the interior and peel off all the stickers on the back window. Was going to drop the smoked E-Codes in but had to get the boys so I'll leave it for another day. I left one sticker on, because it's cool.

Also did one of those trendy sound videos. Why? Listen and you'll see why!!

<object width="400" height="300" ><param name="allowfullscreen" value="true" /><param name="movie" value="http://www.facebook.com/v/2204059822978" /><embed src="http://www.facebook.com/v/2204059822978" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowfullscreen="true" width="400" height="300"></embed></object>

Picked up the boys and we hit the town on a playground tour. We have about 6 playgrounds in like a 3 mile radius so we rode around to each one. The boys were zonked!!

And I made a new MK1. Located a complete ABA swap that includes everything in the engine bay plus the fuse box and dash. Of course I don't have any money for it at the moment, which seems to happen a little too often for me😱

That is all for today...

They guy that built my lemons car said he'd swap the motor in your VW on the cheap.

Oh weawwy? I kinda want to at least attempt it on my own first. I put a motor in my race car. And we did an ABA swap into my buddy's MK2 GTI. Although in each case I had to drop the car off to have it tuned. I can go through the process of putting stuff together and getting it to sorta run but engine tuning is beyond me. Plugging little wires into the dash also sucks. That takes forever to get everything working and hooked up.

It just cost me $400 to register the MK4 so the Bunny may have to take a back seat for a few. I contacted the guy with the swap and he sent me pics and such. It looks like everything I'd need to make it happen. The only thing I'm unsure of is if my header will fit or if I'd need a new one? I'll need to consult the MK1 bible. Also it'll be getting upgraded to an OBD1, that may require something I'm unsure of. There's enough guys out there with this swap so I'll poke around at WaterFest and take notes/pictures...Still completely undecided about the single-round front end. A huge part of me says once I pull the stock motor from the car, it's game on because it won't be original anymore anyway. I think I'll be on the fence with that one right up to the moment it needs to happen. I'm 98% convinced I'm gonna pull the brown primer rat rod scheme. There's one like that and it's one of my favorite MK1's of all time!! And I already have those wheels😀
