GMC Truck Transmission Questions

It's my Birthday!
So the trans in my truck died today. 🙁

Two questions:

1. Can anyone recommend a good shop in the Flemington area?

2. Should I rebuild the current trans or go with a remanufactured?

The truck is a 1999 GMC Sierra 1500 4X4.

Thanks,

Tim

@Dingo ?

Price out a SRTA from a GM dealer. Best warranty, and can be warrantied at any GM dealer, so if your out of state its no problem. Jasper remans are junk, and that is what most aftermarket shops install.

I would also recommend a rebuilt unit from the dealer. They aren't much more money but are far superior.

Wow, $2200 is more than I paid for the truck. I'm just looking to get a few years out of it.

Tim - I had the trans rebuilt at Fischer at 180k. Up in fairfield.
I think the paperwork is in the folder i gave you. Might want to give them a buzz.
i had a catastrophic failure a few months after reman, because they had a bunch of bad torque converts.

i don't know about the current electronics, but if you find a junker or buy a reman, i'll come help you put it in.

watch the model numbers here - its a 1999 truck with a 2000 body type. they did some sort of mid-year thing.

I recently had mine rebuilt at Central Converter in North Brunswick. I haven't received a bill yet since the owner is my next door neighbor. So far so good.

Of course he thinks the only reason the tranny went was because Bridgewater Chevy didn't put enough trans fluid in when the replaced the engine a few months ago.

Pat,

Thanks for the offer, I'll let you know.

Just know that even with the work I've put into this truck, it's still been the best money that I've spent on a vehicle. Even if I had to junk it right now, I'd be ahead of the game. 😀

Thanks for the deal on it.

i'll give you $500 for it now. 😀

interested in a 2003 envoy and maybe a utility trailer?

Pat,

Oh sure, after I just put all new SS brake lines and a water pump in it.😛

After my wife's Buick Enclave, I'm done with GM. The GMC trucks are the only thing I'd consider.
