I got my old CX bike back into touring/adventure mode and have my sights on some weekend camping trips.

LETS TALK GEAR!
Sleeping Bag:
I'm shopping for a sleeping bag. I'm looking for something relatively inexpensive that will pack down small and doesn't weigh a ton, hah.
It's a bag I will be using almost exclusively in the months of May, June, July and August so I'm looking for a fairly warm rated bag hoping it will be lighter and less expensive, but what do I know.

Hammocks:
Thinking I'd like to try out a bug netted hammock. Any recommendations?

Coffee prep:
These trips are mostly centered around going into the woods to make and drink coffee. Looking for stove/brewing gear that works well.

If it's all about the coffee, bring a mini grinder (Hario, there's no other choice for what you're doing) and a glass french press.

I've got an MSR Pocket Rocket floating around somewhere you can borrow if you'd like. Works a charm, but is a bit tall. Canister stoves don't like uneven surfaces. That said, I've used it plenty and never tipped it.

And where are you going? I've been trying to come up with weekend trips in this area and have completely failed as there's nowhere in NJ I really want to bike to and overnight. Only done biking overnights twice in Northern NJ.

Light/packable and inexpensive might be a tough combo to find. I've got a great sleeping bag from EMS that is just over 2 pounds and packs down a little smaller than a two liter bottle but I think it was almost $300 ~15 years ago. Its either a 20 or 30* rated bag- you're right, a warmer rated bag will be lighter. No need for the flannel -20* coleman specials.

If you're only using it for warm summer nights you might be able to get away with a fleece or cotton sleeping bag/bivy sack liner which you can pick up for much less than a real sleeping bag.

I have a couple trips planned for Western Mass/VT with some of my Laughing Dog buddies and would like to maybe get a couple more in maybe riding out to the water gap, but I have to do some research on that one.

If you have any ideas lemme know. I may try and hop on one of the Marty's trips.

Western Mass, no. I did Boston --> P-Town last year. I don't regret it but don't recommend it.

Vermont I liked Middlebury --> Vergennes --> Burlington --> Hero Islands --> Montreal and back.

I HIGHLY suggest the only campsight available just over the border on the way to Montreal. It's basically the parkies from Snatch.
