Generic Pro Road Cycling Thread

I was hoping for more of a fistfight at the end. Everyone marking while Terpstra went was shades of Van Summeren's win a coupla years ago. (Which was a brilliant prize for one of the hardest working men in show business, so it had a different kinda value. I love that tall geek.)
For me, and I know this is silly, I'm beginning to think the only time Roubaix is really really good is when it's raining.

Finally got a chance to watch the race off the dvr. Wow that was an exciting finish. Happy to see someone other than Cancellara.

Hmm kind of suprised of that comment I like Cancellara, nobody digs deeper then him. Though Nikki 's break was perfect and dug deepest I think I ever saw.

Now how clean do you think the sport is now

True, I was really hoping for Stybar. Cancellara is a machine though. It was impressive that he was totally nonplussed at all the dogs 30 seconds up the road. Then worked like a dog to get himself into position with 20k to go.

It was fun to see Sagan give it a go too.

Cool to see Boonen finish with the lead pack after attack after attack from 60km out. They all seemed so gassed to even attempt to jump on Terpstras wheel, good to see him finally get a big one

I was hoping for a win from Cancellera as we would be watching history in the making.

In other news, Gilbert was showing signs of good form in some earlier races and wins Brabantse Pijl today. Nice to see him back in form.

Is it safe to discuss yesterday's stage of the ToC? Wow, what a performance.

Yes, good to see Phinney busting out. Overall the ToC is alittle boring due to the lack of big names.

Did anyone else notice how skinny Wiggo is during the TT? Wiggo has grown on me, especially after his 9th at Paris Roubaix this year. The dudes accolades are legit. Sounds like he is supporting Froome at the TDF, if Wiggo was more explosive on steep grades, we could hope for a Lemond / Hinault show down but I doubt that will be the case.

The giro has just been a crash fest thus far and Kittel dropped out so other sprinters now have a chance. Feel bad for Dan Martin crashing out in the first stage.

Giro - at least we still have Cadel Evans who will make it a bit interesting.

ToC - Not many big GC names beyond Wiggo but you have Sagan, Cavendish - can you ask for much more? Each stage has been an interesting finishing result. A sprint win by Cav, a successful breakaway and Phinney launching ahead on the downhill and tt-ing it in.

GC is basically done, not sure if it is even a 2 horse race. Wiggo is just a diesel engine.

A bomb just got dropped on the Giro. Stages like today are what make the giro much more exciting that the TDF since gaps like that would never been seen in the tour.

Yeah, interesting stage!

Major bummer yesterday though for Taylor Phinney.

Stelviogate at the giro, why do like 3 people on here follow?

I was just reading about this earlier this morning. If the team directors are going to base their racing strategy on what they see on Twitter, they deserve what happens to them. I don't blame Quintana for flat out racing in a race -- if he didn't see a moto with a red flag, then he shouldn't sit up. And if the others chose to sit up and put on warmer clothes, then they should live with the consequences of that decision. Now, it's kind of unclear to me based on what I read if there was a red flag for the chase group and not for Quintana's group, and if that's the case then I'd agree that they got screwed, but I don't think that's what happened. I think they listened to their directors who got their informaiton from journalists on Twitter. Screw 'em. Racing is about more than being just the fastest -- it's about strategy and basing your strategy on social media is a great way to lose.

Rut Roh, ahead of Quintanas Group

BTW, Riding the Stelvio is high on the list of must do's in my life, but I will probably be 60 before it happens....

Yeah, sounds like there was confusion on the message that came from Race Radio too and the tweet in question was deleted. Either way, Quintana buried everyone on the final ascent and that is where the big time gaps opened up.

Wow -- that's interesting. Check out the Velonews article on this. It only mentions that the red flag moto was ahead of them for the first few switchbacks, so I guess this is a photo early in the descent. And I suppose that as long as he's behind it, there are no issues, unless this moto is moving faster than the chase group's moto 🙂confused: 😕 ???) I still think the fact remains that unless they were specifically told that the group up the road was not allowed to pull away, they shoudl have assumed that's what they were doing.

Al I can say is that this photo looks pretty much like my definition of hell. I hate fast descents and riding road bikes in the snow, so I'm pretty sure I'd have been the guy walking my bike in a photo like that. 😀

I'd pay more attention if they showed these on TV. FiOS doesn't include Universal Sports which has been showing a bunch of cycling. Tour of California was on NBC Sports so I caught a few stages of that.

Its not terribly interesting to just read stage recaps.
