Gas powered bikes?

So. Many. Parts.

Dumped the micky mouse mirrors for bar ends. A few things backordered. Missed a couple things that I thought were part of an assembly I bought.

Got it on the lift and extracted the first broken bolt (of 5) this morning. Like butter. I had hoped it would be easy because they didn't break from seizing but were ripped apart in the crash and I was right. So far. 🙂

Added to insurance: $30/yr! It's like they want me to buy more.

First ride!

Still waiting on a few things. I had to reuse the damaged shifter parts and buy a $10 generic clutch reservoir. The wrong rear axle showed up but the old one is serviceable.

I just ran out to get gas but it steers ridiculously easily and no front fairing makes it feel extremely small. My first experience with quickshift/autoblip and I love it, which is funny because I generally don't like DSG transmissions in cars.

The repairs went well. I had to drill and extract 5 broken bolts. One was blind and in an awkward position but just required some patience. Working on the electrics made me want to kick puppies. The most annoying task of the whole project was swapping the switchgear. Behind the headlight is just a mess, with a further mess under then tank.

Random interesting thing: there's no metal subframe. The white bodywork is the subframe. It's just thick plastic.

EDIT: put a quick 20 miles on it this afternoon. So. Much. Fun.

I signed myself up for the DGR this year. It’s part of a fundraiser for taking on prostate cancer and mens mental health awareness. I lost my father-in-law to prostate cancer from 9/11, so this one has some purpose for me. If anyone has a couple bucks they can donate to my fundraising page, please chip in, and thanks.

Here’s my link:

Here’s the ‘official’ blurb:

“On Sunday the 22nd May 2022, we are teaming up to ride in The Distinguished Gentleman's Ride with fellow men and women across the globe to raise funds and awareness for prostate cancer and men's mental health on behalf of Movember. Men die on average 6 years earlier than women and for largely preventable reasons. The number of men that are suffering is growing, and we need to do something about that. So, before we press our tweed and polish our boots, we are asking you to join us in raising funds and awareness for these causes by donating what you can for this meaningful cause and to help the men we love, live happier and healthier lives.”

Chinese fairings suck, lesson learned. I guess I will be playing with fiberglass and foam after all. That and hoping for OEM on ebay. She'll be pretty again soon. At least I got the mechanicals mostly nailed down, except for the choke/enrichment. If I play with the idle mixture screws I can get it to work but then I get a dead spot just off idle. It's not a big deal to fiddle with the idle speed knob when it's cold instead of the choke but I eventually would like to figure this out. It does pull smooth all the way to redline once warmed up(I don't know if I'll ever be comfortable with 13000 RPMs, it just don't feel natural) so I think everything else is good, just that little cold start thing.

Have you synchronized the carbs?

I did but can't hurt to do it again. It's as if it's running too rich because the enrichment lever seems to flood it but if I lean it out it gets that dead spot. Plugs are pretty clean too so I'm not sure what it is. The only thing I haven't done yet is check the valve clearances but I don't think the symptoms point to that(I could be wrong though).

I doubt it’s the valves but I would check those. Is there a leak in a hose? I’m wondering if you’re losing air or something.

I'll double check the sync hoses when I set up to do it again, I remember saying to myself that they felt flimsy. I went over the air vent solenoid and the hoses for that already and everything is good there. I also put new carb boots on since the old ones were hardened so I'm pretty sure it's not leaking from there. It’s weird though because it's running great other than the enrichment circuit. I always thought vacuum leaks lean it out, right?

Did a little more "internetting" and I think the enrichment circuit might be plugged. I'll pull the carbs and clean them again, this time trying to blow through the fuel tubes with compressed air. Guy had the exact same problem as me and this fixed his so it's worth a shot.

My bike came with a quickshifter. I always thought that is is a gimmick, but first hour with it completely change my mind. Being able to downshift mid-corner with no hassle at all is a life changing experience.
I've always thought of getting one because my old-school cable actuated clutch makes for a sore wrist within 2hrs of a ride. As far as mid-corner shifting, there is no mid-corner shifting for me. Mid-corner I'm rolling on the throttle to settle the suspension and drive out of the corner.

Cornering - I feel like I could talk about it for hours. Lately I’ve been keeping the revs up, using an amount of maintenance throttle once committed to my line, and when I see the exit I’m using more throttle when straightening up. No shifting. On my Ninja I had a lot more room with the RPMs, the Interceptor, not so much, but a fun amount of torque.
