I see many wheelsets for sale this year

are folks just ditching the cheapo stock wheels and upgrading

what does a decent set of wheels and tires weigh?
please provide some specs on the builds

We've been banging out the Nextie Carbon wheels over here at Hilltop. The 90mm Wild Dragons laced onto a set of Industry Nine Torch hubs is between 2100-2200 grams depending on width. The 65mm version sits between 1800-1900 grams. Either is a tremendous upgrade over ANY alloy wheelset.

what do typical alloy sets weigh in at?

btw: do you know Ned over at the Plainfield bike exchange, I volunteer there for a few hours each week. He tells me you folks really set to bar on being good guys, thanks for all the support. I'm working on a marketing campaign this spring to give the exchange some life.

All of the weight savings is in the rim, since you can use whatever hubs you want. The lightest Carbon fat rims are 445g (HED 85mm) vs 860g for a Surly Rolling Darryl 82mm. My Nextie carbon 65mm rims came in at 475g each vs 690g for a Marge Lite. So, it's pretty easy to drop a pound or more, depending on what you currently have.
