Electronic Mechs

was able to initially resist the temptation of a bike with electronic shifting.
A few years later and it now appears to be sticking around, what the recent refinements or game changers?
Especially looking for thoughts from recent converts.

Haven't used on MTB, although the rear on my CX bike is XTR Di2 cause 1x11 needs a clutch. So I'm using with the regular road shifters. Will never go back. Battery life is not an issue. The shifts are clean, crisp, and precise 100% of the time.

I went to eTap Red on my EVO last summer. I find it very intuitive and I’m NOT ever going back. The old group was manual SRAM Red so it’s all in the same family... though, I have spent time on first gen Di2. I find the sram more intuitive but Di2 a hair faster. 2c-

It's pretty awesome that it pretty much tunes itself and you don't have to worry about stretched and/or rusty cables. I rode what was probably a 15-16lb Madone with Di2 two years ago. It works great and I love the sound. Not sure how well they do covered in mud and such, but it seems that @MadisonDan and @seanrunnette don't have an issue with it for cross. That being said, I don't see enough benefit to warrant upgrading my bikes if everything is currently working, but if everything suddenly died or if getting a new bike, would strongly consider.

I'm not sure I would pull off a perfectly working DA or Red group to switch. But after riding Etap disc since last year, I would never build a new bike without it.

I have had Ultegra Di2 bike for 5 years and made 8.5K miles but I like SRAM Force on my gravel bike more than Di2.

I ran down Di2 battery 2 or 3 times - that was not very pleasant experience.

how long does that take?

My XT 2X has been flawless! Battery life is about 8 weeks of riding 3 or 4 times per week, and that was about half charge showing.

Customizing the front derailleur shift points is really neat, never in a big/big or small/small gear.

they say 1500 miles for charge but I guess my old battery can last a half of that now.

Sure that was my fault - I just recently learned how to check battery charge level.
The XT has a display with battery level.

the etap has worked out great - except i had a bad battery, which sram warrantied - that tripp@halters took care of with a phone call.
elemnt and garmin have battery alerts on them. had one pop up yesterday.
with the etap system, it is necessary to remember to take the batteries off while transporting the bike on a longer journey, as they use
vibration sensors to be active.

i occasionally hit the wrong shifter with the etap paddle style shifting - but not often.

i also found this shift chart on the elemnt. supposed to do the same thing with the di2

I still haven't received the setup for the tallboy.
it will provide wireless cable pull to a stock derailleur.

if it works out, i'd consider cabling my dropper for it. they are also using it for wireless activation of the suspension lock-outs.

yep. di2 was the thing that finally pried the Campy 10 speed stuff out of my cold dead hands. I look forward to never having to replace a mechanical cable or housing again.

Financially, it just has not made sense to make the jump and I just bumped to Dura Ace 9000 mechanical last year for less than $500. You can't even dream of di2 for that price. It works pretty damn flawless too. If someone gives it to me, I will ride it.

I think stb222 and jimv have it right. For me when I was pricing out parts, I was like wow I can afford Ultegra and Dura now, thank you Di2 for lowering the prices of mechanical. Financially it just don’t make sense yet for most. So I’ll continue to hide in the cave and adjust time to time.
BUT like Jim said, once one bike gets electronic that will immediately deem all others in the stable unrideable and slower. 😉
