Dry January 2025 (The Sober Thread)

So I’ve had a few beers the last few weeks. I’m good with that as it’s a major reduction in consumption. Dry January brought an awareness to things that was lacking before. I have not been drunk since Dry January which is a win. I’m setting a better example for my son and I feel better on a daily basis. I visited my brother this weekend. We didn’t have a single drink and he hasn’t had a drink since Christmas. Unfortunately, he does not have the ability to moderate so this is a huge win. I wish those of you battling serous issues the strength to defeat your demons. This shit isn’t easy but it’s worth it!

Nine weeks.....definitely more productive. I will be on vacation in a few weeks and have a feeling I will partake in a few beverages then.

Amazing how mental some of this is, if I have a Manhattan Special at night after work it gives my mind the same “relax” signal I get when I drink a beer. I also feel Uber guilt if I have one prior to 6pm.

Definitely more conscious of others behaviors when they are drinking. 0D8B078F-1E08-4ED1-8F64-167C0AC32696.jpeg

What's the caffeine content in that?

Well, it's entirely up to you with what you want to do but as they say "fail to plan, plan to fail". Having a beverage in hand even if it's one of those coffee sodas eases the pressure of drinking in my experience.

People forget pretty quick you aren't drinking... Memory isn't a drunk person's strong suit usually lol.

On January 21st I posted - "21 days. Sleep is more consistent. Wrist pain and body aches have decreased significantly. I did have a lot of trouble on my mountain bike ride yesterday. Felt abnormally fatigued. Literally had to stop after every climb to catch my breath. I only rode 7 miles but it felt like 15."

Went for a physical and found out yesterday that I'm anemic. 😮 This means drinking is out (again) for a while. I have more tests scheduled next week. Hopefully it isn't serious but it explains why I've been feeling like my fitness has been going backward, despite increasing my training volume. 😩

6 days but really more like 95% sober since January 1. Just got back from the doctor. I’m severely low in iron, like practically nothing. Out of a normal 60 to 170 micrograms per deciliter, my count is 2. Based on our conversation, he suspects I have slow bleed hemorrhoids that have drained me over the last 3-6 months (TMI?).

Iron IV starts next week. Doctor says I should feel “amazing” compared to how I’ve been feeling, which is fucking shitty considering I gave up drinking, am eating better and have been exercising more. I see a gastro tomorrow.

Still no soda or candy, my wife delivered number 2 so I hope to make progress in the fitness department now that I don't have to fear being an hour from the car and another hour from home.

Being at the hospital overnight those vending machines call your name if you're a fatty like myself. I'm over the hump and don't have many cravings, going to turn my attention fully to saturated fats and fitness.

Hell yeah, Max. Congrats dude... on #2 AND the diet! I’m going to make you and @BPaze ride tigers blood with me again this year. @BPaze will rail a tree at some point. It will be a good time.
