Dried sealant

Recently picked up a used set of Stans Iron Cross rims and found that the sealant was totally dried out. Not unexpected in the least given the fact that it hadn’t been ridden or serviced in two years. My question is whether or not (and if so how) I should remove the dry sealant. I know it could affect the bead seal....

or do these get thrown on the fire pit?

A bucket of warm water and a scrub brush... good as new.
Yes !

Depending on the age of the sealant lots of elbow grease for sure. Take a cotton face cloth and start rubbing. At first it will appear as if you are not getting anywhere. The heat from friction will start to peel it away. Make sure the tire beads are very clean on both sides as well as the rim bead. Those spots will be your leak points.

No need to clean off all the old sealant. Pick off the big chunks and slap some new sealant in and ride.
