Just like the black box in your car, Strava was used to investigate the speed of a cyclist during a crash. Though in this case my opinion is that it was used for justice as the rider was way out of line trying to beat a yellow light through an entire intersection then hitting a pedestrian at 35 miles per hour. He admits the light was red before he got through the middle of the intersection and claims that the crosswalk filled with pedestrians before he got to the opposite side. I just finished a ride in NYC, and if you are going 35 mph through a large intersection while the light is yellow, the transition would be timed so you would be through before the crosswalk clogs up. IMO the light was red before he entered the intersection.
