I fixed one just like that many moons ago with a vice and a large prybar. It was a sheer act of will and in the end a waste of time, it never felt right afterward.

Use the seat post rail mount to grab the one side that is out and deform it back until you can get it back in the hole. Easier with two people.

i was thinking this might be the solution - but worried i might weaken the rail and then, as @Frank mentioned above - it would never be the same

Too early for fire 🔥 and new bike?
never too early for that! no new bike - but likely will treat myself to a new saddle! secondary thread topic - what saddles are you folks using for long days etc? i've had the stock WTB saddle on my pivot since i bought it, and really have had no issues with it, so will likely replace like for like, but curious what everyone else's favorites are?

What I described is hard to explain but I've done it numerus times as the saddle I love is prone to breaking rails. Think of just grabbing the one side that is out and flexing it using the rail mount of the seat post.

There is only one way. I've done this a bazillion times on everything from plastic BMX seats to MTB seats.
- mount seat to seat post,
- Mount post in bike,
- Hang bike from a ~1/4" diameter rope, looped around the empty seat rail socket in the seat,
- Bike should be able to hang freely, front-wheel-down,
- Gently pull the bike downward until you can flex the seat base and socket far enough to re-insert the rail.
