Dickerson Mine Endurnace Oct 29 2023

I enjoyed the event as well. The first lap was a bit hectic but that's kinda how it usually goes with that many people. It usually gets sorted rather quickly and then it's just a pass here or there. I was happy to ride the entire time and I finished just over the 3 hour mark with 4 laps. I thought I was going to be put to the test if I finished under 3 hours but that wasn't the case. I don't think the legs would have gotten me to the lap any quicker. They were dying fast!

I was happy to have no mechanicals as I forgot my repair supplies DOH! I was also happy to keep it upright and have no issues with my knee. The new ACL is doing well so far. As the rain came down harder I was being a bit more cautious to try and prevent any additional injuries. It's only the third event for me this season - and the only local one. It was great to see some familiar faces!

Great event! The course was a perfect mix of flow & chunk and held up throughout the race.
How about that rain? No rain when it counted and the rain on course didn't bother me as I was already sweaty.
The climb up to the start was a nice warmup so I could ditch the jack before the start.
The first lap felt long with all the traffic which eventually cleared out. While it was raining I thought 1 lap is good enough.
I even helped someone with a flat thinking I was almost done.
But the rain stopped before the end of the 1st lap and the people encouraged (pressured) me to do another lap. So I did.
It rained again during the second lap but stopped before the end. This lap felt much faster & more fun.
Again I thought 2 laps ain't bad, but it was still fun and I was still warm.
So off for lap 3 I went with encouragement (pressure) from the crowd.
Glad I did. Once again the rain stopped in all the right places. The bike handled great in those conditions.
Finished with 10 min left on the clock, but I was done! Didn't drink enough and was right on the border of cramp city.
The post race food was excellent and the entire event was so well run. Kudos to everyone involved!!!
As an added bonus I won a raffle prize.
Already marked my calendar for next year

The rain did not make the race any less enjoyable. The ebike made it hard to know if a pass would stick as there were many fast riders and the rythm is different while pacing. I am glad they gave ebikes a shot. I pedalled the 48lb ebike the last 3 miles with a dead battery

I think at least 6 out of the 8 e-bikers ran out of juice during the race. I'm sure that strategies will evolve as they get more race experience and I would actually like to try to race on one at some point.

Are you allowed to have a spare bike in the pit? Because you know where this leads.

anyone have hot swappable batteries for these things yet? just buy a spare (and a generator to charge it off in the pits if the race is long enough)

There's a few out there now. The downtube drops right out.

Orbea even has a range extender that basically looks like a water bottle for an extra 250Wh

I was in eco mode for most of my last lap, then ran out of juice right before the left to go up the hill to the finish line. My battery is four years old now, so it's not what it used to be.
