D & R canal

Arwen's Mom

Mother of Dragons, Breaker of Chains
A Couple of friends were thinking of coming down to ride the canal path tomorrow. I dont want them to make the drive if conditions are horrible. We would be starting near the canal lot at 6M and riding towards Princeton area.

Anybody go past there today? Hows it look? I wont get a chance to drive out there to check.

Thanks a bunch!

Don't bother. Hardly any tracks on the multiple section I saw today. Was actually surprised by how little traffic there's been a week later.

jim posted on IG, basically virgin powder

next week should be interesting lol
5 straight days of high 40's or low 50's and some rain will make for vastly different conditions next weekend. I'd guess most of the snow will be gone at least from the canal.

I broke trail from Bound Brook to Canal Road. Out and back. Hard, but doable on a fat bike.

No signs of a bike, looks like walkers and skiers

Followed tracks from a small footed (7-8) hiker, till now, he/she decides to turn around

Snow wuz like cookie dough, couldn't float or get traction, manually moved front to granny gear but still no luck, all this pushing made me think of Jim's recent adventure, not comparing, but instead greater appreciation of the effort

The brown floater tires worked well and stayed "clean" after the dirt. Though wonder if Dillinger5s would have made much of a difference for me

But woodchucks don't chuck wood...

What's your estimated total for the fatty build?
my target was under $800, compared to the Boris X9, I wanted to start with base frame under $300, so there weren't many options, it's the V2, so far I haven't seen issues of seat tube breaks prevalent in the first run
Also picked up a new build kit off of Bike Island from a Boris X9 Bluto, with no frame/fork/bars and shifters for $299 shipped. Then picked up an AL 9zero7 fork on auction for $75 shipped.

Along with the On-One frame, maxed out the order shipping of $80, including Floater tires and lots of accessories and clothes. In the end I estimated about $150 was not directly bike related. Rest of parts such as saddle, SLX front shifters and rear D, bars and grips was what I had around.

Long winded, but I'm guessing the build came just under the Boris, $725, not counting pieces from parts bin
rides really comfy, happy so far

where's that, I rode from Main St to Zarepheth starting at about 10:30, no bike tracks till I got to the green bridge.
Right before Zarapath. I rode from the entrance in Bound Brook to where Canal Road crosses the path.
