Computer (Mac) Question

Seems like there are quite a few technical ppl on here...
I have a 7yo MacBook Pro. Should prolly get a new computer but I am too cheap and would rather upgrade my bikes.
Anyways... it becomes unresponsive with the spinning circle and sometimes without and just freezes. Restart takes forever and a half. If I restore via Time Machine to the last backup, its fine for another couple of months. Its a vicious circle and I am kinda getting sick of it. Is the hard drive degrading or is it a different hardware issue?

If restoring the software fixes the problem, then I would find it unlikely to be a hardware issue.

Only thing I do with this computer is mtbnj, youtube and pay my bills
I swear.... no porn on this computer.

Oh... the hard drive does make a noise and its the same pattern when it becomes unresponsive.
When the noise is gone... computer is fine.

If you only shitpost on MTBNJ on it, why not just reset to factory instead of restore to backup? Maybe your backup still has some corrupt files or something?

Edit: If your hard drive makes noise when it's slow, and works when it stops making noise, don't you already know the answer? Lol. Get a new hard drive. I think you can get MacOS for free online to install. Pre-2014 Macbook drives are replaceable, just make sure it is specifies it works on Macs.

Did a fresh installs of the OS a couple of times but the same problem returns.

while i dont have a ton of mac experience, and its tricky to diagnose anything like this without being in front of the problem, it certainly sounds like a hardware issue that takes a while to manifest especially if the fresh OS install doesnt fix it. I would have said also to not use an old backup since the software you have installed could be causing it too.

If its already only running basic stuff, and there's no software to uninstall, might be time to bite the bullet and replace the hard drive. shouldnt cost that much if you just want to keep it working and not buy a new one

I am hoping its as simple as a hard drive. Currently backing up on a USB drive just in case.
I don't need tons of memory... what are they? like $50 for 500gig?

it would be cheaper to get a chromebox.

i might even have one you can take when you grab the hitch lock.

It will probably instantly transfer all your information to Google and @Patrick...just sayin’

other than the pile of gift cards i'm taking to HB tomorrow, i've got nothing to hide....

i get ads for fire fighting equipment and dating asian women. i think they've nailed it.
not one kbbq, think with all the talking about it i'd get something

I meant that if @Paul H takes your chrome book HIS data would be instantly transferred to both Google AND you...incorrect punctuation on my part maybe?
