Coffee Talk: Once you go Ergon you never go back.

I just picked up a used bike that came with round grips. figured I'd give them a shot. 3 rides = ordered Ergons for my new bike. cant wait to switch them up. the whole ride yesterday I was thinking "I hate these damn round grips"

coupled with small bar ends provides at least 3 different had positions (which I think helps with hand fatigue even more than the egron shape itself).

I can understand the "loss of control" comment but I havent found that to be a big problem for me as I dont ride super tech places. and i am not a weight weenie so that isnt a concern for me. 🙂
 
I like them. I broke a 3 metacarpals in my left hand, and wrecked my wrist a few years ago, and i never have pain when i ride anymore. and the small bar ends mine came with are an added bonus.

I have chunkees on my older mtb, and i like them as well, but not as much...i probably put them on crappy, because the ends are longer then the actual handlebars and its quite annoying.
 
All I can say is Biopace.

Get your position right and there is no need to look for a fix in the first place.
 
I have the real high-zoot carbon versions and i like them. But...I am thinking of tring a set of risers on the Niner and ergons and risers just don't mix.

The real benefit, to me at least, was when I was a full-on single speed guy. Having the bar ends really gives great out of the saddle climbing leverage.
 
My vote is +1 for Ergon, or at least non-round grips.
I have bigger hands and need meatier grips.

And if bringing Biopace back is on the table, I vote for that as well.
 
The lady at dunkindonuts looked at me like im crazy, gonna head to starbucks and see if they have any. 😕

Less is more anyways.
 
I am using Ergons currently... They work well for me on long rides... I also have a pair of ODI Rogues that I use.. I flip flop between the two... Oury's and ESI grips are great but I prefer lock on's

I've never tried ergons, my wrists are fine spanky. I like the traditional look, ergons look like grips for old people with arthritis.

I used to swear by Ergons, but since my hands have adopted, so I can use almost anything. Here are the custom grips I'm currently using:

Love and Meh

I have the GA-1 on my Nomad and love them. The suble contouring of the grip really feels comfotable. Normal round grips feel odd and somehow too small now.

I have the small verion of the original wedge shaped grips on my Stumpjumper. They're OK of the road (slightly eliviated the numbness) but they haven't been off road yet. This weekend I may go against better judgement and try them at Ramapo.
 
I ran the GP1 for about a season. At first I thought they were amazing, seemed they completely changed up the game. And then, little by little, I began experiencing carpal tunnel-type numbness. So they actually seemed to be causing the exact issue they purport to remedy.

I switched over to the GE-1, dug those and used them til they died, now nearing the end of useful life for a pair of GA-1, which I've liked just fine.

Been tempted to try the ESI on numerous occasions, perhaps this spring will be it. Oury lock-ons are intriguing as well, though they may be too big for my girlie-sized hands.

Where have you been, these were the first lock-on grips I bought like 10 year ago. Watch out, they are bigger than the originals and you are better off holding the fat end of a baseball bat to ride.
