Chimney Rock Conditions

Thanks a bunch Kirt for lobbying on our behalf. Still a win from my perspective when it reopens. Will this property be managed by Jorba? Sign me up for the miles of bench cutting...
That was the original plan as the township does not have the resources or know how to do much.
There is a tree down on High Tech trail; a hand or a chain saw is needed to remove it from the trail. It is hard to crawl under it, the trail is hardly passable right now.
on the "to do" list, both the tree and trimming
I saw someone was out in spots with the weed-whackers today.. thank you to whoever that was!

Took this small connector on red today, oh boy, what a mess. Two decent sized trees are down, lots of branches scattered all over and plenty of overgrown brush. I’m not sure how many actually go this way, it kinds of seems like it’s just going to fill itself in and not be a trail anymore. (I rarely take it, just wanted something different coming back down that side of red).
Started the process. The lack of rain helped early on. Now the growth is exploding. It will take a bit to get most of the park reasonably clear.

I trimmed that trail back last year. It was a fair amount of work and just not that easy to get to quickly. Also my battery died, so could have been better. The trees being down doesn't help. It's on the list cause if we don't do it, the park will probably let it disappear.

If it helps I'll hit that section w/ electric hedge trimmer next chance I get so you can focus your time on the stuff my small chainsaw probably can't handle. Can also do my part to clear the debris now that it's confirmed that wasn't an intentional trail-closing debris scattering.

I knocked out the section on red today. Trees cleared and trimmed top to bottom. Completely rideable but a fair amount of debris down from both trees and vegetation. The section just to the east (along the reservoir) was really overgrown, so it jumped to the top of the list.
High Tech will be next up.

Could be us. First day of summer break and my kid needed something to do before his summer camp starts, so I kept us busy.

It's going to be too wet to ride for a while anyway, and I still need some exercise to do. Please post up where and what needs love.
Most if not all of red should be good thanks to controlled burn, I think I got most of the spots they didn’t already, tho there has been growth since.

I did a bunch of trimming on upper blue and the blue interior trails, but got into a fight w/ a massive sticker bush (I won, but I did take damage) so after that I wasn’t as thorough, need to back track and clean up the spots I missed.

Last time I rode circled part of white below needed the most love. Someone recently did the further out sections of white so think those still ok

Has anyone ventured over to check out the conditions?
Just got back a little bit ago. Trails in great shape, including the work last night on blue. Was only able to ride blue and red as there was a lot of lumber down which cut into ride time.

Was able to clear everything by hand but 2 spots on red:

The X marks a LOT of crap:

Was able to clear most of it, all that's left (sorry forgot the after picture) is one leafy branch on the ground too thick to break and pinned down by heavier stuff so can't move. That said, can easily walk and ride over it, it's basically ground clutter.

Then there is the downed tree which is decent size (not sure my 10" battery-powered chain saw can get it).

The other spot, circle, is just a thick hanging vine that I couldn't really move outta the way cuz it's tangled and just goes back to its spot:

It's an inconvenience, not a stopper.

Is there a "correct" way to cut one of these things other than where most convenient so each side hangs outside the trail?

IMO they will be fine.

We hiked up blue to do TM yesterday and it was surprisingly ok. I suspect there will be puddles here & there but less than you might imagine.

I could be wrong.
You're not wrong for blue and red. That one puddle we had to step over hiking up blue last night is the only bit of standing water I ran into on my ride.

Even the blue switchies had no standing water, tho one particular corner was VERY soft causing some Tokyo drift action.

Ah ha! Face to name time! Glad you got out to enjoy the pure awesomeness of a gold cart bridge width trail before the rain has its way with it!

Hopefully someone gets to the trees. I'm focusing on trimming, so I'll leave to someone else. I started on yellow/green today. Got done the twistys and the open space areas. Will try and get back to High Tech tomorrow.

As stated above, conditions where I trimmed was fairly good, aside from a lot of sticks/branches from storms.

Was able to get back out and take care of the tree. Mucho thanks to the two bikers who chanced by when the cut was done, needed all three of us to roll it off trail.

Thanks for the trimming on white! Been a while since I cam outta that section w/o any new gashes.

Watch your head, passable, but had to duck and top of helmet still lightly rubbed under.
